I'm sure some of you are aware that the Gig Harbor City Council will be holding a public hearing next Monday April 13th at 5:30 p.m. (Get meeting info here) to hear comments from the community regarding a request for a zoning code amendment.
The request would allow Restaurant 2 and Restaurant 3 uses in a portion of the Waterfront Millville zoning district. To break it down into simpler terms, Gig Harbor Marina Inc. (Arabella's Landing) wants to open a restaurant in the existing Ship to Shore business location on Harborview Drive. In order for the restaurant to have no equipment restrictions such as grills and deep fryers and also be allowed to serve wine, beer, and spirits, this zoning code amendment and conditional use permit need to be approved by the council.
A few individuals in the community have been very vocal about their objection for allowing this restaurant and others, like Susanne's Bakery, to expand their operations to include these services. Without any sign of support for this business it might appear to the council that most of the community is not in favor of approval. City Council members need to hear from our businesses and community members who support them taking these actions. New businesses in the downtown district help to attract visitors and patrons from the community while contributing to the revitalization of our Historical Downtown District.
Please join us at this meeting and voice your support for business in our community. If you support the amendment but don't want to speak publicly, attend and wear our "I Support Business" button. We want to demonstrate to our City Council that many residents and businesses support this amendment.
Can we count on you? Please rsvp to [email protected] to reserve your button. If you are unable to attend the meeting please consider sending an email to each of the City Council members expressing your support for this development in the Millville District.
