"One day, someone showed me a glass of water that was half full. And he said, 'Is it half full or half empty?' So I drank the water. No more problem."

Happy Hanukkah!  Merry Yule!  Merry Christmas!  Happy Holidays!  Seasons Greetings!  Whatever your personal beliefs or traditions, we certainly hope that this time of year finds you blessed with family, friends, and good tidings.

Just a quick heads up that our company is traditionally closed for the week between Christmas and New Years while our staff enjoys their family, friends, and good tidings.  Please plan ahead if you need anything, but we always monitor voicemail for emergencies.

So, party on this holiday season, and stay safe!

Hoppy Holidays!

Ponderings
Get Out Your Mittens And Parkas!

Okay, maybe not, but it's Winter to us!  Your pond water temps should definitely be below 60 degrees by now, which means NO MORE FEEDING YOUR FISH high-protein commercial fish food.  We don't care how much they beg!  You can always give them things like zucchini, melon, lettuce, oranges, and even Cheerios.

Also, stop thinning and trimming your aquatic plants as they go dormant.  This gardening activity will resume after the last danger of frost has passed us by -- typically in late February.

At this time of year, when the aquatic plants are dormant, algae may rear its ugly head.  It's the price we pay for not freezing over.  You can handle this issue in a couple of different ways:
  • Leave it alone and make it one less thing you have to do this Holiday season (it's actually good for the aquatic life in your pond like frogs and toads);
  • Hand-weed it out, using it for compost around other plants like roses, as it's very high in nutrients; or
  • Treat it with SAB (String Algae Buster) or Ecoblast, which you can get shipped directly to your front door through the online shopping link on our website.
DO NOT use anything that says it's an "algaecide" in your organic water garden.  THAT is a chemical and will ultimately create more problems than it solves.  Stick to natural enzymes and bacteria.
