MLI dinner celebrates the life and legacy of Sir Wilfrid Laurier
Sir Wilfrid Laurier served his country with distinction through some of the greatest - and most tumultuous - periods of Canadian history. And on Feb. 24, 2016 he got his due.
MLI celebrated Laurier's life and legacy with a dinner at the Canadian Museum of History featuring members of Parliament and leaders from the business and media communities.
The event received coverage on CPAC and in the Ottawa Citizen and iPolitics.

All eyes are on first-time Finance Minister Bill Morneau this week as he prepares to release the new government's first budget.
MLI Senior Fellow Philip Cross gave a preview of what to expect in an interview with BNN. He also authored a column for the Financial Post on why the government's projected deficit is a concern, sparking a response from MLI author Ian Lee on CBC's The Exchange.
Later this week Senior Fellow Sean Speer and Managing Director Brian Lee Crowley will wrap up their "From A Mandate For Change To A Plan To Govern" series with a look at the budget.

The Macdonald-Laurier Institute's Great Canadian Debates are back with a star lineup of Canada's most influential thinkers!

MLI leads the way on next steps for the Canada-US relationship
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went to Washington in March, and MLI was right there with him to provide a long-term look at the future of the Canada-US relationship.
Senior Fellows Sean Speer and Laura Dawson authored a commentary on next steps for advancing the two countries' interests, which earned them an op-ed on the United States news site Real Clear World and Dawson an interview on CTV.
MLI also released a "Straight Talk" Q&A with former ambassadors Derek Burney and David Wilkins.

The threat terrorism poses to Canadians doesn't get as much attention as it should. But MLI is seeking to change that.
In February MLI released a commentary with Luc Portelance, former head of the CBSA, and Ray Boisvert, former Assistant Director of CSIS. The two also authored an op-ed for the National Post.
Senior Fellows Christian Leuprecht and Sean Speer then authored an op-ed for the Sun chain of newspapers, based on their own counterterrorism commentary from earlier this year.

News about convicted BC serial killer Robert Pickton publishing a book has reminded us again of the need for a nation-wide law preventing criminals from profiting from stories about their crimes, writes Benjamin Perrin in the Globe and Mail.

Canadians don't think frequently enough about the link between innovation and the telecommunications industry.
That's why MLI was here to help remind them.
In March Senior Fellow Sean Speer, with co-author Paul Beaudry of the University of Calgary, released a commentary advocating for the role of telecommunications in creating a prosperous and productive Canada.
That earned an op-ed in the Financial Post, a series of interviews with CBC Radio One stations across the country and an interview on BNN.

A new Aboriginal opportunities agenda
The progress Aboriginal Canadians are making is real, but a rethink is needed in Ottawa to help free up First Nations for take the next step in economic development and self-sufficiency.
Senior Fellows Ken Coates and Sean Speer made the case for a new Aboriginal opportunities agenda in a recent commentary.
