Ian Lee delivers debate on the future of mail service with paper on Canada Post
Is the cheque still in the mail? Not for Canada Post, says MLI author Ian Lee.
Lee's recently-released MLI paper has stirred up a debate about how to make Canada's national mail carrier financially sustainable.
The paper's recommendations -- which include reducing the number of days on which mail is delivered to three -- generated an op-ed in the Financial Post and significant attention in other news media.
Included among the coverage were: Stories in the Toronto Star and the Winnipeg Free Press; television interviews with BNN and CBC's The Exchange with Amanda Lang; and radio interviews on CBC Radio One, Newstalk 610CKTB in St. Catharines and Newstalk 770 in Calgary.

The tributes continue to pour in for the Macdonald-Laurier Institute's fifth anniversary.
Congratulations from Globe and Mail columnist Jeffrey Simpson and former New Brunswick premier Frank McKenna are the latest to be featured on the MLI site.
To see all the words of praise for MLI during its first five years, check out our special fifth anniversary site.

Liberal Member of Parliament and former justice minister Irwin Cotler is getting set to depart the political stage.
Regular Inside Policy contributor Robin Sears looks back on the former justice minister's contributions to human rights and the rule of law in the August 2015 edition of the magazine.

Leuprecht says it's time to get serious about combating homegrown terrorism
Opinions may differ on how best to go about it, but Christian Leuprecht says one thing is clear: The current election needs a vigorous debate about the future of combating terrorism.
In the Globe and Mail, Leuprecht offers his analysis of one policy idea that's already been proposed on the campaign trail.

The 2015 federal election is upon us. What better time to discuss the biggest issues facing Canada?
Some of Canada's foremost thought leaders on Aboriginal affairs, fiscal policy, democratic reform, counterterrorism and Canada Post have weighed in on the MLI website with what to watch out for during Canada's 42nd federal election campaign.
The August 2015 edition of Inside Policy, the flagship magazine of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, features a series of election-related articles by some of Canada's foremost thought leaders.
Scott Newark examines how best to combat homegrown terrorism, Dr. Merrilee Fullerton says it's time for a serious discussion about fixing health care and Stanley Hartt says Canadians should be careful what they wish for on electoral reform.

Another month, another spat between provincial leaders on pipelines.
MLI Senior Fellow Dwight Newman sorts through the rhetoric.

Ask a question about how to better the lives of Aboriginal Canadians and you'll probably end up with as many answers as you had respondents.
Senior Fellow Ken Coates, writing in the Huffington Post, lays out the next steps for improving opportunities for Aboriginal Canadians.

Slow manufacturing sector compounds Canada's oil downturn, says Philip Cross
There's no denying that oil prices are taking it on the chin. But MLI's Philip Cross, writing in the Financial Post, says an underperforming manufacturing sector has also played a role in the slowing economy.
