Lincoln Caylor and Gannon Beaulne, the authors of a Macdonald-Laurier Institute paper on mandatory minimum sentencing, made headlines responding to a recent Supreme Court decision on the subject.

Caylor told CTV's Power Play that the court erred in striking down some of the federal government's mandatory minimum sentence law for firearms.

Caylor and Beaulne also spoke to National Post columnist John Ivison, while Beaulne spoke with The Canadian Press and several radio stations.

Former Chief Statistician of Canada Munir Sheikh released a paper for MLI that has changed the debate on income inequality and social mobility.

Sheikh told the Business News Network that government programs should focus more on encouraging social mobility and less on promoting income equality, which can often create incentives to stay in low income brackets.

MLI Senior Fellow Philip Cross also authored an op-ed for the National Post that draws from Sheikh's paper.

Buckley and Freeland tackle income inequality at the first Great Canadian Debate of 2015

The first Great Canadian Debate of 2015 is in the books!

Over 100 people came out to see F.H. Buckley and Chrystia Freeland debate the motion "Canadians should stop worrying about income inequality" on March 31 at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

Buckley and Freeland authored op-eds on the subject for the National Post and also gave an overview of the debate in interviews with CBC Radio One's the 180.

The entire event is also available for viewing on the CPAC website.

MLI has added Christian Leuprecht, one of Canada's leading experts on security and international affairs, to its bullpen of senior fellows.

Greg Poelzer continues to attract attention for his MLI paper recommending that Canadian government invest in sovereign wealth funds.

He appeared on Business News Network and was also profiled by a Calgary Herald columnist recommending the Alberta government use it as a starting point for fighting its deficit.

Macdonald-Laurier Institute Senior Fellow Philip Cross appeared on CTV's Power Play to discuss his recently-released MLI paper, which argues that government transfer programs make Canada's tax system more progressive than it might seem at first blush.

Latest Inside Policy tackles assisted suicide

Assisted suicide, the Supreme Court and Aboriginal prosperity were just some of the topics covered in the latest edition of Inside Policy, the magazine of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute.
