O God, who before the passion of your onlybegotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another" 2 Corinthians 3:18
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

When Moses came down from being in the Lord's presence on Mt Sinai when he received the Ten Commandments his face shone with the reflected glory of the Lord.  After speaking the words of the Lord to the people he placed a veil over his face to hide the fading reflected glory.

In his second letter to the Corinthians Paul says that in Christ the veil is removed.  We are being changed into Christ's image from one degree of glory to another.  Instead of fading, the glory of the Lord should be increasingly reflected on our faces as we are being transformed more and more into his likeness.

The power of the Holy Spirit is ready to do this work of transformation in us - may we allow Him uncensored access so that that work of transformation can be accomplished.  For we are to reflect Christ's glory from the inside out. In the words of the song "Shine, Jesus, Shine"
As we gaze on your kindly brightness
So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine, Jesus, Shine

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,
Rev'd Sarah+

WELCOME BACK FR ROBBIE!

Fr. Robbie has come "home!"  While he and Margaret are in Central Florida he will be with us helping out in our worship services and in the pastoral ministry.  I know you will all join me in welcoming him home.

THE JOURNEY: An Anglican Catechumenate

This nine-week course is offered for those who would like to make a mature affirmation or reaffirmation of their faith within the community of faith and in the presence of the Bishop.  Bishop Greg will be with us for his Visitation on Pentecost, May 19.  Those wishing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation with the laying on of hands by a Bishop, or those who wish to be received into the Episcopal Church from a different denomination, or those who are desirous of making a public reaffirmation of their Baptismal vows are invited to prayerfully consider attending these classes.  It will be necessary for participants to commit to regular attendance.  The classes will cover such topics as Scripture, The Book of Common Prayer, Anglican Church History, The Creeds, the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion, the Sacramental Life of prayer and amendment of life. There will be a small amount of assigned reading. The final session will be a mini-retreat during which we will explore our giftedness in the Holy Spirit and our stories as we prepare for the laying on of hands.
If you would like to register for this course please print out this form and send it in to the office
The classes will take place on Saturdays from 3:00 - 4:30 pm on the following dates: March 2, 9, 16, 24.  April 6, 13, 27.  May 4, 11.
For more information on Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation please read the section from the Diocesan Handbook found Here

ANYONE FOR TEA?
On Sunday, March 17 at 4:00 pm Bishop Greg will join us as we celebrate the 130th anniversary of the consecration of the Chapel.  We will walk the perimeter of the Church grounds, praying over the boundaries of the Church, and praying for the light of Christ to expand beyond our boundaries.  After the procession around the property we thought we might gather for High Tea in the back courtyard.  We need 5 - 6 people who would each be willing to set one of our round tables with their own teacups, saucers, teapot, tea plates, etc.  Then perhaps a few other people who would be willing to make scones and cucumber sandwiches.  I'll provide the tea - both loose leaf and tea bags, clotted cream and jam for the scones

MAGNIFY THE LIVING LORD - III
You are invited to share a thanksgiving you have of how the Lord drew you closer to himself.  On these journeys of faith that each of us are on we are called to be an encouragement to each other along the way.  I pray that the Lord will reveal to you how you can be that source of encouragement.  Please call Joy Sutton at (407) 830-5258 or email her here

LENTEN DEVOTIONAL
We will be ordering a number of devotional booklets called Seek God for the City.  This is a 40 day devotional to be used during Lent.  A sample page can be found here.  There are also resources for children that are available in .pdf format here
If you have a smart phone there is an app that can be downloaded for .99 c.  The link can be found here.  I encourage you to pray with us for the city in which you live, for the leaders, for the people, for the schools, that the light of Christ may be spread abroad.

ASH WEDNESDAY
Ash Cross Wednesday, February 13
12:00 noon in the Chapel
and 6:00 pm in the Church
Ash Wednesday Service of Holy Eucharist
and Imposition of Ashes
"Dear People of God: The first Christians observed with great devotion the days of our Lord's passion and resurrection, and it became the custom of the Church to prepare for them by a season of penitence and fasting.  This season of Lent provided a time in which converts to the faith were prepared for Holy Baptism.  It was also a time when those who, because of notorious sins, had been separated from the body of the faithful were reconciled by penitence and forgiveness, and restored to the fellowship of the Church.  Thereby, the whole congregation was put in mind of the message of pardon and absolution set forth in the Gospel of our Savior, and of the need which all Christians continually have to renew their repentance and faith." BCP 264
I invite you therefore to begin the observance of this holy season by joining us in one of the Ash Wednesday services in which we are reminded with the imposition of ashes that "we are but dust and to dust we shall return"

Sunday Morning Lenten Series
Beginning on Sunday, February 17 Jim Sutton will present a video documentary by GloBible titled "In His Shoes."  The documentary moves between footage of modern day Israel and vignettes of the life of Jesus in the same locations during Jesus' day.  It includes both Biblical narrative and theological discussion by Biblical scholars.
9:30 am in Roberta's Hall: 2/17, 2/24, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24

WEDNESDAY MORNINGS IN LENT CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER
Every Wednesday morning during Lent our regular Noonday time of prayer will be expanded.  Beginning on Wednesday, February 20 at 11:00 am we will meet in the Prayer Ministry Room.  From 11:00 am until noon we will explore Richard Foster's book Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home and at noon we will move into the Office of Noonday Prayer.  This will be a  time of deep prayer.  We will lift up all those on our prayer lists slowly and intentionally, we will pray for all the ministries at Good Shepherd and the leadership, and we will spend time in silent prayer.  If you can only join us for Noonday Prayer please do so - this will be an oasis of resting in the Lord in the middle of the week.

WEDNESDAY EVENING LENTEN SERIES
The Book of Common Prayer invites us to an observance of a holy Lent (the 40 days beginning on Ash Wednesday)
"by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word."  BCP 264
Our Christian Formation classes during this season are designed to aid us in this observance.
This year Darryl Bloodworth will be teaching from his book Core Values for the Young (and not so young) Christian
In this book Darryl "addresses the age-old question of why so many of us who profess to be Christians do not live as Jesus taught." He provides "a practical method of examining one's behavior and holding it up to the values that Jesus described in the Sermon on the Mount .... and steps to internalize these values."
Our evenings begin with a soup or pot-luck supper in the Parish Hall at 6:00 pm followed at 6:30 pm by Darryl's teaching: 2/20, 2/27, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20
