Collect for the Second Sunday after the Epiphany
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

We have had such a rich few days with Rev'd John Rice.  Through his ministry there has been a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit on us.  After the Thursday evening healing service I heard again and again that people sensed a strong presence of the Holy Spirit and the word "peace" was repeated by those present.  After the teachings on Friday evening and Saturday and our experience of soaking prayer yet again we were aware of a time of anointing - this time the words that were shared were "released" and "refreshed."

This morning (Sunday) Rev'd John gave us such a great word of encouragement about our common ministry.  As an outsider he said that he experienced such a profound sense of the love of the Lord in our midst and encouraged us to continue to shine that light - an especially appropriate word during this season of Epiphany.  May we continue to build each other up in love so that we may "shine with the radiance of Christ's glory that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth."

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,
Rev'd Sarah+

PS  I encourage you to listen to Rev'd John's sermon here
PPS I hope to have a DVD of the majority of Rev'd John's teachings during the healing mission available shortly.  Please let Terri in the Parish Office know if you would like one.

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING AND LUNCH
in the Parish Hall
Sunday, January 27 after the 10:30 am service
Join your parish family for fellowship over lunch as we elect new vestry members and celebrate all that the Lord has done in and through us in 2012.
Nominees to the vestry must be confirmed members in good standing: those who for the previous year have been regularly in attendance at worship every week unless sick or traveling, who support the ministry of the church financially with a pledge, and who support the ministry of the church with their time and their talents.  Neither staff members nor contractors or their spouses are eligible to serve on the vestry.
The nominees to the vestry this year are: Susan Burley, Gloria Grant, Roy Lassiter, and Susan Pelham.
Susan Burley has been our Treasurer and coordinates our Tabitha's Treasures ministry.  Gloria Grant has previously served on the vestry, coordinates our LEM ministry, and is now the chair of the Pastoral Care Commission.  Roy has headed up our Audit Committee this year, has been the host with Bev for the Fellowship Under the Word Bible study, and has served on the Newcomers/Evangelism Commission.  Susan Pelham has served on the Human Resources Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Landscape Committee.

PICTORIAL DIRECTORY
This will be the final opportunity to take updated pictures (you will still be able to email a picture to us during the following week).  We will have the current list of names and addresses and photos for you to check and make changes and/or additions.  We will print a small number of the new directory as color printing costs are very high.  The directory will be available online (password protected for your protection) but easily accessed by a phone call to Terri for the password.

WEDNESDAY MORNING STUDY
Beginning this Wednesday, January 23
From 10:30 to Noon

We will begin a study on the book "Sacramental Life" by David deSilva.

From the Publisher:
"What happens when old meets new?

As David deSilva has experienced the ancient wisdom of the Book of Common Prayer, he's been formed spiritually in deep and lasting ways. In these pages, he offers you a brand new way to use the Book of Common Prayer, that you too might experience new growth, new intimacy with God and a new lens through which to view the world.

Focusing on the four sacramental rites of baptism, Eucharist, marriage and burial, deSilva explores each one in depth through the prayers, liturgies and Scripture readings of the Book of Common Prayer, and then adds his own devotional exercises that help you immediately apply what you've reflected on.

In this engaging resource David deSilva invites you in to a new way of being spiritually formed through an old book that has shaped thousands of disciples through the years. "I hope that, as you read and pray through this guide," he writes, "you will discover afresh the ways in which the rites contained in the Book of Common Prayer facilitate a genuine encounter with God, and a transforming experience of grace."

(New members and visitors)
Orientation Classes
Sundays: Feb 10, 17, 24 from 9:30 am - 10:15 am
in the Prayer Ministry Room
You might actually have been around for a while, but still have some questions on why we do what we do on a Sunday morning (or Saturday evening), and what are some of the programs/ministries that are going on at Good Shepherd.  Or you might have some other questions about the church - don't worry you won't be the first to have that question!
Our Newcomers' Commission has scheduled a three week series to try and address those questions, and to get to know you.  Please come and bring your questions!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - MISSION TRIP
This summer (probably the first week in July) we will join with a couple of other Episcopal congregations to make a mission trip to New Jersey to help the community recover from Hurricane Sandy.
