Collect
3 Advent

Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

"Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."  Philippians 4:6-7
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

If these words had been written by anyone else, in any other situation, we would perhaps have cause to dismiss them, or at least not give much weight to them.  But they are written by the Apostle Paul who has undergone beatings, shipwrecks, lashings, stonings, betrayals, constantly under threat for his life, and numerous imprisonments, indeed as he writes these words he is in prison awaiting word on his possible execution.

Evil has stalked God's people since the Fall, and it uses our human frailties to spread its darkness.  There is a battle pitched between darkness and light, but take heart it is not an even battle: "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it." (John 1:5)  This is what we cling to in this season of Advent - that the one who came still comes and still overcomes: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people." (John 1:1-4).  There will be a time when darkness will be completely extinguished by the light - when Christ returns.

In the interim we have been enlisted to be light-bearers, Christians (Christianos - little Christs), in this battle.  And our greatest weapon is prayer!  Prayer must be our first line of attack, not our last resort.  God alone has the power to bind up the broken-hearted and He has entrusted to us the task of being conduits of His power.  In His mysterious and divine ways His power is released through the prayers of the faithful.  And so we must follow the Apostle Paul's exhortation and in everything be in prayer, and never more so than when the darkness seems to be closing in.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,
Rev'd Sarah+

MAGNIFY THE LIVING LORD - VOLUME III

Would you please give some thought about something that may have happened in your life that resulted in your faith becoming greater than it had been.  Sharing our experiences with others often opens their eyes to how the Lord has helped them on their life journey. It's wonderful how He can use "little things" in "big ways" to reach us.

Please let me know in a short writing of no more than two, double-spaced pages. You may e-mail it to me HERE or hand it to me at church. If you don't care to write, I will be glad to write it for you. Call and tell me about it. (407-830-5258)

The deadline will be Feb. 1 (after the holidays) so you will have plenty of time to get it turned in to me.   I would, however, appreciate a call or an e-mail soon to let me know of your intent to participate. That will give me an idea of how many to expect.

Thank you.

Joy Sutton
