Collect
24 Pentecost

O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box.  For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had."  Mark 12:43-44
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Many people put large sums of money into the metal receptacles designed to collect funds for the Temple treasury. But Jesus chooses the miniscule monetary gift of a widow as a teaching moment for the disciples.  Her meager offering, in his estimation, was worth more than the entire day's collection.  Clearly Jesus is not interested in money for money's sake.  He is interested in what the gift says about the heart of the giver.  Those who were giving large sums gave "out of their abundance" but the widow "out of her poverty."

Her gift revealed a surrendered heart.  A heart that completely trusted in the love and provision of God.  A heart that didn't count the cost.  Like Ruth in our Old Testament story who surrendered all her hopes and dreams, a known place for an unknown, a homeland for a strange country with absolutely no hope of gain, so too did the widow in the Temple courtyard surrender all.

This is the kind of heart God seeks from us - one that is completely surrendered to him.  He paid for our lives with his own, he desires that we would freely give ours to him so that he can return them to us in order that we can live more abundantly.  Voluntary surrender requires absolute trust, trust that the one to whom all is surrendered loves us unconditionally, knows what is best for  us, and has the power to care for us.  He showed the proof of the one on the cross and the proof of the other with the empty tomb.  May we learn well the lesson from Ruth and the widow and ask the Lord to reveal to us what areas of our lives still need to be surrendered to him.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,
Rev'd Sarah+

JUNIOR WARDEN SUGGESTION BOX
Sometimes people notice things that need fixing around the campus.  On Sundays your vestry members and rector's priority is preparing for and entering into worship of our Lord, so that's not always the best time to give them the information verbally.  Therefore we have posted a Suggestion Box on the Website.  Click here

This will be a more efficient way of getting the information into the right hands.  Evidently there are always LOTS of things in need of TLC around the campus and with limited financial and human resources these need to be prioritized and then addressed as manpower and finances allow.  We hope to be posting shortly a "Junior Warden's Journal" which will comprise a list of these current items with estimated costs.
Although there is always room for improvement we can truly celebrate the many improvements made to the grounds and buildings over the last couple of years by some very faithful, and quiet servants!  Thank you!

I am the Good Shepherd.  The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep ... I am the Good Shepherd.  I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
