Collect
All Saints

Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

A Prayer for the Election

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of our President and other officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes.

"When Jesus saw Mary weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, he was greatly disturbed in spirit and deeply moved.  He said 'Where have you laid him?' They said to him, 'Lord come and see.'  Jesus began to weep."
John 11:33-35

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

We may never question whether or not God understands our griefs.  Jesus tells Philip "whoever has seen me has seen the Father," and the compassionate heart of God is perhaps never more poignantly revealed than in this account of Jesus weeping at the grief of his friends Mary and Martha.  He knows that he will shortly call their brother, his friend Lazarus, out of the grave, and yet he is so overcome by his friends' grief that he is brought to tears.  Their sorrow is his sorrow.

Beloved, our sorrow is his sorrow.  He came so that death would not be the end of our story but he understands both the sorrows and the joys of our journey.  Lazarus once raised will eventually die, as will we all.  But this raising from the dead foreshadows a greater victory over death that God brought about by raising Jesus from the dead with a body that will not die - a resurrection body that we are all promised at his return at the end of the age.

The unbinding of Lazarus' death shroud is a foreshadowing of the unbinding of our death shroud - through his death the chords of death can no longer bind us.  Having been baptized into his death we are also baptized into his resurrection - death is now no more than a doorway to eternal life in his nearer presence.

Today we had the great joy of seeing two of God's children unbound from the chords of death - Danny and Zairre died with Christ in the waters of Baptism and have been raised to new life with him through those same waters.  Death will not be able to hold them captive, their sins have been forgiven, they have received God's Holy Spirit, and have become members of the household of God.  Thanks be to God!

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,
Rev'd Sarah+

Chili Cook Off, Dessert Auction and MOPS Vendor Fair

What a great turnout for our 3rd Annual Chili Cook Off and Dessert Auction, and 1st Annual MOPS Vendor Fair.  It was wonderful to see so much activity on our beautiful campus.  All the chilis were really tasty - the judges were hard-pressed - but in the end the winners were: 1st place - Susan Burley, 2nd place - Jamie Eshleman, and 3rd place Cindy Bieloh.

Many, many thanks to our wonderful judges, a couple of whom had to step in at the last minute and did a wonderful job: From the Maitland Fire Department Battalion Chief, Martin Whorteman and Paramedic Joe Ditorre, from Roy's Restaurants Managing Partner Dan Kirby who also gave each of the winners a gift certificate to Roy's, and from Florida Bridge and Transportation, Engineer Mike Hebert.
Chili Cook Off 2012

Several of our local firefighters joined us, and brought their trucks with them!  Word got back to the Fire Chief that our chili cook off was "the best ever!"

A huge "thank you" to Wayne Waters and his crew for all their hard work which reaped $1,560!

Thanks also to MacKenzie Hicks Harwood for all her hard work in organizing the Vendor Fair, and for those MOPS moms who came out to support their fundraising event.

I am the Good Shepherd.  The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep ... I am the Good Shepherd.  I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
