"Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him" Job 13:14
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

The book of Job challenges us with the question of whether in the darkness we will remember what we learned in the light.  Will we continue to trust in God when shadows fall?

Job comes through his trials with an even greater appreciation for the holiness, the majesty, and the transcendence of God: "I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you."  Job passes through the darkness with a deeper trust in God.

On the contrary  the rich young man in Sunday's Gospel (Mark 10:17-31), in the comfort of his wealth and possessions, chooses to place a greater trust in his possessions and wealth than in the Lord.

Where do we place God and where do we place our wealth and possessions on our trust meter?  It is the desire of God's heart that we should completely trust him, that we should trust in his love, and in his ability and power to care for us, even when shadows fall.  Do you find your trust wavering sometimes?  Do you forget in the darkness what you have learned in the light?  Take heart - the Lord is still constant, he is still sovereign, he is still powerful, and he still loves you. "We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin.  Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Heb 4:15-16.

In the words of the unknown poet:
Trust Him when dark doubts assail thee,
Trust Him when thy strength is small,
Trust Him when to simply trust Him
Seems the hardest thing of all.
Trust Him, He is ever faithful,
Trust Him, for His will is best,
Trust Him, for the heart of Jesus
is the only place of rest.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+

I am the Good Shepherd.  The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep ... I am the Good Shepherd.  I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
