Gardening Season Tips

Doing yard work? Keep these guidelines in mind

RIGHTS-OF-WAY: No plants, fences, structures or obstructions are allowed in the right-of-way.
NO PLASTIC BAGS: Charleston County accepts clippings in paper bags (no plastic)
CUT limb sizes down: 4 feet or less
PACE YOURSELF: Town Contractor, Suburban Disposal, can only pick up small piles of yard debris from each home each week. Put out small piles each week to ensure it all gets picked up.
CURB IT: Yard debris is placed at the end of your curb on Tuesday evening for pick-up on Wednesdays.
CONTRACTORS: Carry it away. If you hire a landscape contractor, the contractor must haul away the debris.
NOTE: The Town's collection vendor does not pick up yard debris on vacant lots or when it appears a contractor has worked.
Co-Existing with Coyotes: Report Sightings
Please help the Town Report all coyote sightings!  It is very important to report each and every coyote sighting using the following procedure:

Call Consolidated Dispatch: (843)743-7200
                          (available 24/7)
Provide the following data:
1. Date of sighting
2. Time of sighting
3. Location of sighting
4. Quantity of Coyotes
5. Circumstances - Did you HEAR, SEE or INTERACT *
                              with the coyote(s)
* Interact means having to scare away the coyote by activity such as: staring it down, yelling/making noise, throwing something at the coyote, etc

The Town does not encourage you to physically engage a coyote.  If at any time you feel in danger, please call 9-1-1 for emergency assistance.

Reporting each and every sighting provides the Town necessary data to track coyote habitats and behavior patterns.  This information is critical to the Town's regular review of its coyote management strategies. Please contact  Police Chief Howard with questions ([email protected]).

Thank you for your assistance

We encourage you to visit the Town's website for more information and tips on coyotes.
