It is spring break for many families with K-12 children.  Thank you for using extra caution and watching for the children on bikes/at play during this CCSD spring break week. Council has extended the deadline for residents interested in serving on the Board of Zoning Appeals (12Noon April 21st) - please consider volunteering.  We hope your family enjoys a pleasant and safe spring break, Passover and Easter.  Please visit the Town's website for current news and events.

Town Projects - Update
greyscale-drafting.jpg
Status of various ongoing Town Projects:

Town Hall, Police Station
Park Improvement
Town anticipates having a third community meeting in May.  Hill Construction and Creech & Associates (architectural designers) are working together to blend public feedback on design options with construction cost and expertise.  The Public Facilities Committee of Council is tracking progress on this project (last met March 25, 2014).

If you have an idea to share or question to ask, please share it!  You may email Creech & Associates at sithproject@sullivansisland-sc.com (email dedicated to the Town Hall project).

Real Estate Marketing/Realtor Services
Dunes Properties of Charleston, Inc & Tim Reese will provide real estate expertise as the Town moves to market and sell select Town property.  Update:  Council, in special session on April 7, 2014, approved first reading of Ord 2014-2 to sell TMS 523-08-00-023 (vacant lot across from old Town Hall at 1610 Middle Street) for $605,000.  Council will have second reading of Ord 2014-2 at its April 22, 2014 regular Council meeting.

Citadel Street Tennis Court & Playground
Nature Trail/Station 16 Boardwalk & Decks
Four candidates bid for the Nature Trail project and two candidates bid for the  Tennis Court project. The Town is currently reviewing the bids, reporting the tennis court project through the Recreation Committee of Council and the Station 16 nature trail through the Land Use & Natural Resources Committee of Council (last met April 11, 2014).

Protected Land
The Land Use & Natural Resources (LUNR) Committee of Council reviews and makes recommendations to Council on issues and activities related to the management of the deed protected Town beach-front property (Protected Land).  The Committee reviews current beach-front projects in furtherance of stated Town goals, and, monitors progress on the Town's comprehensive strategic Accreted Land Management Plan (still under development).
Coming soon! The Town's naturalist, Jeff Jackson, will conduct resident "hands on" educational workshops in the Protected Land in May. "Hands on" means residents will learn to identify and properly eradicate invasive species on their property by helping to do so in the Protected Land.  Date/time/location and more information - TBA soon!

Gardening Tips for Your Home!

Doing yard work? Keep these guidelines in mind:

RIGHTS-OF-WAY: No plants, fences, structures or obstructions are allowed in the right-of-way.
NO PLASTIC BAGS: Charleston County accepts clippings in paper bags (no plastic)
CUT limb sizes down: 4 feet or less
PACE YOURSELF: Town Contractor, Suburban Disposal, can only pick up small piles of yard debris from each home each week. Put out small piles each week to ensure it all gets picked up.
CURB IT: Yard debris is placed at the end of your curb on Tuesday evening for pick-up on Wednesdays.
CONTRACTORS: Carry it away. If you hire a landscape contractor, the contractor must haul away the debris.
NOTE: Suburban Disposal does not pick up yard debris on vacant lots or when it appears a contractor has worked.
