Interior Design students are being invited to participate in an exciting design challenge with a top prize of $500 to be awarded during a reception on August 2nd. Audio Video Interiors, the winner of numerous national awards for home theater design, is hosting this competition with the support of leading manufacturers. The sponsoring manufacturers will provide training and support to the students as well as judge the projects and contribute to the awards. Leading this distinguished group of judges will be Julie Jacobson, Editor-at-Large, CEPro/Co-founder of Electronic House, EH Publishing.
Michael Pope, President of Audio Video Interiors exclaims, "I am excited to present this opportunity to the students at Virginia Marti, Kent, Akron University and Tri-C. The fact that it is the brain child of our very own Elizabeth Dall, a recent Virginia Marti graduate, makes it that much better. We are in a position to illustrate the importance of design professionals working in conjunction with Audio/Video engineers to make a Theater Room project successful. Both elements are important in creating an award-winning project. I learned this lesson on a project in 2007 when we designed and installed a high performance theater without the collaboration of an interior designer. The Audio/Video performance were superb but the room's aesthetics were not equally impressive. Conversely, Audio Video Interiors has won numerous national design awards when skilled interior designers were involved in our theater room projects. We are thrilled to be the first experience for these young professionals to collaborate with a professional installation firm!"

"This design challenge should be a learning experience that allows each student to push their personal understanding of the new technology that is transforming the end user experience," explains Cameron Albin, Residential Sales Representative of Lutron, one of the event's sponsors. "As the relationships between custom installers and designers grow stronger, these activities become more important. I am happy that I can sponsor this opportunity and hope to be a resource to all the burgeoning young design professionals."

Over the following 6 weeks, students will have access to the home theater design experts at Audio Video Interiors as well as to the sponsors for technical support, materials, etc. They will be required to submit their Design Intent, Plans, Drawings, and Specifications. Custom Leon Speakers with Stewart Cinecurve Screen
|
The theater design will specify Leon Speakers. When Noah Kaplan, President of Leon was invited to sponsor the challenge, he did not hesitate. "At Leon,
our vision has always been to mix art with audio. We love participating in events that inspire students and aspiring designers to think creatively about how to integrate technology into our day to day lives in a more meaningful way. We've noticed that although technology has become easier to use, it hasn't necessarily become easier to incorporate into modern architecture. We have worked extensively with designers and integrators to try to solve these common problems. This video demonstrates our approach to these situations. You'll notice that we refer to our speaker solutions as a "palette of products" to which you can creatively apply your own designs, and we are always open to new perspectives. Sometimes you learn the most in unexpected situations, so we enter these with open minds and open ears."
