CHS PFC eNewsletter

March 13, 2015

Dear Friends of the PFC:

A couple requests for our performance booster clubs.  For our upcoming Jason Alexander PAEC Gala we are looking for posters from all performances that might have been used for music, theatre and dance in the PAEC. These may be used for a setting we are making in the Black Box Theatre for the after show donor reception.  We have put out inquiries, but who better to ask than parents if they might have something from a past performance? Please contact us if you can help with this.

Thank you to our fabulous ASB students, ASB Advisors and the CHS Administration for choosing such a beautiful location for this years Senior Prom.  On Saturday, May 30th from 7pm to 11pm the Ronald Reagan Library will be the setting for a magical and memorable night for the 2015 graduating class.  More information was passed out to seniors Thursday morning and can be found in this newsletter.

Grad Night this year will again be at the happiest place on earth.....Disneyland/California Adventure.  Thank you to our Grad Night Coordinator, Cyndi Bartok for putting this all together.

Many thanks,

Laura Ainsworth

PFC Co-Presidents

In celebration of World Water Day, Calabasas New Global Citizens will be holding a "Dirty Water Day Pledge" on March 19th and 20th. We are asking CHS students and faculty to carry a bottle of dirty water as a symbol of the challenges that over 850 million people face every day in this search for clean water. Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including WAR.

Challenge yourself to carry one of these bottles around for a day and realize the struggles that many African women go through daily, such as walking at least 10 miles every day and being vulnerable to rape and other violent attacks.

We will be selling bottles for a $5 donation that will go towards the Global Women's Water Initiative. GWWI teaches women water, sanitation, and hygiene skills that greatly benefit their communities.

We believe clean water is a natural human right and we are asking you to take the DIRTY WATER DAY CHALLENGE!

The first 100 water bottles will include a PURAVIDA bracelet!!

Bring $5 to school on March 19 and 20th!

For more information please contact Co-Presidents, Andrew Isaac (akisaac@gmail.com) or Brayden Ainsworth (brayworth@earthlink.net

Dear Calabasas High School students and parents,

Last Thursday morning at 7 AM nearly half of the Peer Support members attended the Homer Dickerson Youth Ethics Conference. All members who attended the conference had an excellent time meeting new people and learning the importance of having good morals and ethics.

We are also excited to announce that we now have the opportunity to be able to focus solely on 10th-12th grade & foreign exchange student transition. Link Crew, a 9th grade student transition class, will be taking the place of Coyote Connect for incoming 9th graders beginning next fall. At the suggestion of the Peer Support officers last year, our school became aware of Link Crew. Students in grades 10-12 generally have a more difficult time transitioning to a new school and require the sharp(undivided) attention of the Peer Support Program to help them feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. The addition of Link Crew allows Peer Support to have more time to focus on the 10th-12th grade students and build that area of our program to new heights. We would like to extend a warm welcome to Kirby Welsh who will be the adviser for Link Crew next year. We are confident that she and her team will continue to help the incoming 9th grade students feel comfortable and accepted at our school.

Please make sure to visit our website at www.chspeersupport.com and like us on Facebook at  https://www.facebook.com/peersupportchs

Thank you!
Sincerely,
The Calabasas High School Peer Support Team

"Funny Girl" The Musical Mar 17 - Mar 21 at 7 pm, plus a matinee Mar 21 at 2 pm.

Tickets for Funny Girl are on sale now!  This is a lavish production about Fanny Brice who broke through the glass ceiling for female comic stardom.  Lacking the traditional beauty expected of a dancing "Ziegfield Girl", Fanny Brice amazed audiences with her talent for being irresistibly funny.  Last year, Calabasas High School Theater's production of "Young Frankenstein" was the talk of the school.  Catch this year's musical and be part of the action.

Tickets available at  http://tinyurl.com/ctbo74w for best seats and also at the box office on the day of the show.

We are also looking for volunteers on the days of the show!

"CERT" TRAINING

FEMA: FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

Preparedness Myths Debunked

Disasters can happen at any time and with little to no warning; that's why being prepared is so important! Some people may rely on old preparedness myths in response to certain disasters, which can prove dangerous. When it comes to disaster preparedness, can you separate fact from fiction?

  • Standing inside a doorway is the best way to stay safe during an earthquake? WRONG! According to FEMA, the current protective action to take during an earthquake is to drop, cover, and hold on. Download the America's PrepareAthon!  How to Prepare for an Earthquake Guide to learn earthquake basics and how to protect yourself during tremors. You can also check out the animated video, When The Earth Shakes, to see how to stay safe.
  • First responders will be able to help everyone during disasters. WRONG! Emergency responders do a great job keeping people safe, but they can't do it alone. It may also be several days before they can reach your area.
  • Remember, being prepared for disasters is a shared responsibility. It takes the whole community working together to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and other emergencies.
The County of Los Angeles Fire Department Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training was developed through FEMA to provide basic fire safety and life saving skills.  Please join us in Agoura Hills, March 3rd, click here for flyer, or in Calabasas, March 19th, click here for flyer.
