We had a great turn out Tuesday evening at the parent informational meeting "What to Expect When Teens Turn 18: A Legal Perspective."  In attendance were parents of all high school grades.  At the meeting we learned that once our teen turns 18, as a parent, we no longer have any legal rights to their medical records, school records or much of anything else. We also learned that there are documents that can be put in place so that parents can legally assist their child once they are 18. The presenter, Estate Attorney Cathy Miller-Ginsberg, suggested that families review the following documents to help with the transition into adulthood: Durable Power of Attorney, Advanced Healthcare Directive, HIPA Release and FERPA Consent.  We hope that you all take time to look into these important documents and have a conversation with your child.
