Dear Friends:
Please join us for a special showing of the movie BULLY next Wednesday, December 17th at 7pm in the Performing Arts Center. This very moving film is a must see for parents and 6th grade students on up.The PFC is thrilled to host our holiday staff luncheon on Thursday, December 18th. This is our yearly tradition to provide and serve lunch to the Calabasas High School staff as a small way to thank them for all they do for our children. Thanks to many parents who have already offered a generous donation of cooking or baking. We appreciate those who have sent a monetary donation to offset the other food and beverage purchases. There is still time to donate. Please contact our Co-Chairs, Mari Levenson mari@jemmsjewelry.com or Rachel Werner rachel@amandajordyn.com for more information. As parents of high schoolers we may not interact with the high school staff very much, but during this holiday season let them know you value our educators, administration and all the CHS staff. A kind gesture, no matter how small, goes a long way. The last eNewsletter of the year will go out next Friday.
Many thanks,
Laura Ainsworth

Part 2, Wed. Jan. 7th at 7:00pm in the Lecture Hall: FAFSA Line by Line. Bring your lap top or other device and learn how to fill out the FAFSA - the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This application can be submitted for FREE -- learn how to conquer this document line by line easily.

College and Career Center
COLLEGE TIP:
After over 100 College Visits this fall, the most heard advice from all the Admissions Directors who visited was: Be yourself. Follow your passions. Be Authentic. An overly polished essay may sound artificial; things done because "they look good on a college application" may appear as though the student did not have a true passion for anything. If you're in 9th grade, hone in on something that makes you happy, gets you involved and makes you interesting -- and don't worry what peers think. Strive for authentic experiences and not ones that you think a college would like to see.

 PEER SUPPORT TEAM NEWS...
Dear Calabasas High School students and parents,
CHS Peer Support, along with the Stand For The Silent Club, is hosting a community screening of the movie Bully on December 17th at 7 pm in the PAEC (admission is free). All parents, students (grade 6 and above), and members of the community are invited to our movie screening. The film being shown at the community screening has been modified and is not the R-rated version. Bully follows five stories of children and families who are affected deeply by bullying at school. With intimate glimpses into homes, classrooms, cafeterias, and principals' offices, the film offers insight into the lives of bullied, ridiculed children. Historically, seemingly small instances of labeling and ridicule have catastrophic consequences for the marginalized groups involved. This film brings those "small" instances into the spotlight, creating a space to discuss the effects of bullying. CHS Peer Support aims to help create a bully-free environment both at Calabasas High and within our community. The first step to accomplish this goal is by making our community aware of the negative affects of bullying.
For more information about the event, please visit https://www.facebook.com/events/588992964566285/?pnref=story.
On Thursday December 18th, Peer Support is also having a movie night at 6:30 in the Lecture Hall at CHS for all students and parents (admission is free). We will be showing the movie Frozen and drinks and snacks will also be for sale at the event. Can't wait to see you there!
As a reminder, students can always find Peer Support Counselors at FRIENDS in room H117, which is open every day at lunch. FRIENDS is a place, where students can relax, hang out with other students, meet new friends, and ask any questions students may have, so feel free to stop by.
Sincerely,
The Calabasas High School Peer Support Team

Notes From the Health Clerk:
It is recommended that students follow the below recommended practices by the California Department of Public Health for preventing the transmission of Enterovirus and other illnesses:
- Students with flu-like symptoms should stay at home. Flu-like symptoms may include:
- Fever (100 degrees F. or higher) or feverishness
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Body aches
- A feeling of being very tired
- Vomiting or diarrhea
Generally, health officials recommend that individuals who have flu-like symptoms should remain at home and avoid contact with others. They should do so until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever without the use of fever-reducing medicines such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
