Dear Friends of the PFC:
Thank you to everyone who attended Back to School Night. We hope it was informative and enjoyable.
This week was School Spirit Week for students and staff. Monday was Hawaiian day, Tuesday was wear red for the blood drive, Wednesday was work out wear, Thursday red, white and blue for 9/11 and Friday class colors! Today was also the big pep rally that the students really look forward to.
Also this week has been Club Rush. Students discuss their different clubs at school and get new members. There's a club for everyone and if your child doesn't connect with any, they can petition for their own by getting a staff member to sponsor them. It's a great way to meet friends with similar interests and maybe even do some service learning depending on your club.
Our first PFC meeting of the year was greatly attended and we saw many new and welcoming faces. We appreciate the support, interesting comments and pertinent questions. Remember, this is YOUR Parent Faculty Club, so please join and let your voice be heard. Our next meeting is Monday, October 8th, 9:30am. Please contact us if you have an item you would like considered for the agenda.
Congratulations to Assistant Principal Scifres and his wife on the birth of their new baby! A new little CHS mascot.
A special thank you to Principal Foss, Assistant Principal Emery, Assistant Principal Scifres, Assistant Principal Young for making the first few weeks of school as seamless as possible. Behind the scenes may be crazy, but from the outside looking in, it looks like smooth sailing.
Always the best, Laura Ainsworth & Lisa Wayne PFC Co-Presidents |

PFC DIRECTORY
The PFC Directory is given to all PFC member families. However, you do not need to be a PFC member to have your student's information included in the directory. The directory form was filled out online as part of the RACI process, however, the majority of the students did not fill out the form.
THERE IS STILL TIME FOR YOUR CHILD TO BE INCLUDED IN THE DIRECTORY. Please click on the link below and fill out the form for EACH STUDENT. (If you have two children you must fill it out twice). Only the information you include on the form will be printed in the directory.
All forms must be completed online by Friday September 19th to be included in this year's directory. If you have any questions, please email Nancy Yumkas at nyumkas@yahoo.com

PSAT REGISTRATION OPENS WEDNESDAY SEPT. 17th
PSAT is the official practice test for the SATs. It is put out by College Board, the company that brings us the SATs, and it is returned to College Board for scoring as well. This year the PSATs will be held at CHS on Saturday October 18th at 8:00am. Registration is available online only starting Wednesday Sept. 17th. This year we have space for approximately 290 test takers. There are no walk-ins and no stand bys allowed for the PSAT. Registering early is highly encouraged. For 11th graders only, PSAT is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship, a prestigious designation that begins with a qualifying score on the PSAT. 9th and 10th graders are not eligible for the National Merit Scholarship. I strongly urge 9th and 10th grade parents not to pay for high cost tutors and test prep for the PSAT. The PSAT is a practice, there is no need to practice for the practice. Please encourage your 9th, 10th and 11th grader taking the PSAT to relax and do their best. For all grades, PSAT is not on any permanent record, colleges do not see it. For more information, please contact Robin Lutsky at rlutsky@lvusd.org.
