NSPE
July jump started the new fiscal year off with a bang as the CSPE President, Executive Director, and two CSPE Past Presidents attended the NSPE annual meeting on July 4 in Washington DC.
Highlights from NSPE are the newly established Engineering Body of Knowledge produced by NSPE and the adoption of the NSPE strategic plan.
Specific CA highlights: Ken Discenza, PE, DM CSPE and Frank Fong, PE, DM CSPE were awarded the NSPE Fellows Status in recognition of their professional contributions to engineering and the societies.
Also, the CA Bullet Train was the subject of one of the education sessions.
NCEES
NSPE in concert with several of the state societies were successful in getting NCEES to reach a decision to remove the Raise the Bar/ B+30/Masters equivalent language and the 2020 deadline out of the model law and replace it with a policy statement towards increasing the standards.
Governmental Affairs
CSPE worked with NSPE on recommended PAC candidate donations soliciting member input along the way.
CSPE also worked with NSPE in gathering information on prevailing wage issues and radon testing.
SB 969 Public Works and peer review on mega projects made it's way through the legislative process this year.
Member Services
CSPE developed a new partnership with MAP - Mediation and Arbitration Services for engineers and engineering firms.
State Fund Workers Compensation Insurance continues to work with CSPE and several other state societies in determining the value of group pricing and group discounts. Several meetings were held during the first quarter.
Student and Youth - Promoting the next generation of engineers
Frank Fong, PE, DM CSPE, F.NSPE is working with Tau Beta Pi on creating a nexus between their programs and CSPE youth programs.
Future Cities Competitions will be getting underway soon.
MATHCOUNTS
CSPE continues to hold the national record for having the largest Mathcounts program in the nation. Team CA swept the national competition this year winning top team and top individual honors.
School registrations are beginning and coaches are already meeting with egger students.
Chapter Activities
The CSPE Monterey Chapter held its annual Laguna Seca event.
Attendees learned firsthand how engineers designed the course including the infamous corkscrew turn 8. Then a tour of the historic vintage cars and the course itself continued the excitement.

The Southern Chapters Council held its' first engineering and cultural tour of Dodgers Stadium for FY 14/15. More events are planned throughout the year.
