Letter from the Headmaster

My fun day as a headmaster began by opening the mansion door for the students. Throughout the day I met the Upper School staff. I met Mr. Knupp who teaches Social Studies and sometimes Upper School P.E. I saw Mr. Carman in his office rather than the gym. Mme. Dao is a French teacher who has one cute daughter. I checked to make sure that the leak had been repaired in Mrs. Buettner's science room. Dr. G also teaches science and has been teaching for more than thirty years. When I walked in to the class, she was explaining friction to the students.

When I walked into my brother's classroom, I saw his teacher reading Green Eggs and Ham. Trevor kept waving at me and smiling. When the book was finished, the students had to draw one of their least favorite foods. Trevor was going to draw broccoli, and I would have drawn mushrooms. Yuck!

Mr. Fee had some items in his office to return. I delivered a speaker to Mr. Kvapil. We went to Mrs. Knupp's room and gave her a book about Japanese swords that had been written by Mr. Roach that he donated to the school. While we were there, we watched the WQPT story time with some of the Pre-schoolers.

I signed a certificate for summer school and a decree giving 6th graders an extra five minutes of snack. I got to eat some Ritz crackers. I worked on the article that you are reading right now. Mrs. Paget asked if I wanted anything to drink. I said, Sure. What is there? She said, I'll take a look and brought me some apple juice.

I inspected the tunnel that goes under the mansion. Mr. Fee and I went to Mrs. Schroeder's fifth grade classroom to see how she teaches. She taught a lesson about probability using digital gumballs. I got to sit at the teachers' table for lunch. All the teachers had a lot of interesting things to say like when Mrs. Donovan described how Carter walks, shrugging his shoulders. She also showed a video of a winking kindergartner.

My day was good because I got to walk around and see everybody. I recognized a lot of people and they said hello to me. I liked being a headmaster, but I like being a student too. If I had to pick one or the other, it would be a difficult decision.

Sincerely,

Sydney James, Headmaster for a Day

with Curtis Fee, Interim Headmaster

REMINDER:
Safety is a Priority at Rivermont!

We understand that time is a luxury that most of us just do not have. But please remember, when dropping off or picking up your kids, no matter the time of day, it is important to obey the 10mph speed limit and follow the posted one way traffic flow when entering and exiting the campus. We want everyone to be safe. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

International Celebrity Chef
International Exhibits
Cultural Performances

Mark your calendar for Friday, March 11 at 3:30 p.m. and bring your family to Rivermont's International Food Festival! The festival is sponsored by the Parents' Council and is a perfect way to end International Week at school. A time to celebrate the diversity of our Rivermont Community with food samplings from around the world. This year's Food Fest Chair, Jacqueline Tome, has put together an afternoon filled with great experiences.

Each family is asked to bring a dish representing a country of their choice. The dish can be an old family recipe, from your birth country, or just a dish you would love to share. Please provide 2-4 dozen sample sized portions of the dish. If the dish cannot be easily made in to small portions, please consider making enough to provide at least 24 servings. All dishes will be marked with a Food ID card which will give specifics of the dish to aid in allergy awareness and recipe sharing.

For additional information, please see the International Food Festival FAQ's also found on the Parents' Council pages of the Rivermont website.

You will have the chance to sample food prepared by a "Celebrity Chef", visit exhibit tables, and watch a number of performers from various countries.

Exhibit tables - If you would be interested or know someone who is interested in setting up a table with cultural information or activities about a country of which you are knowledgeable, please contact Jacqueline Tome ([email protected]).

We need volunteers to help with food setup, assist exhibitors in the gym, hand out programs, assist with entertainment, and clean up.

Click on the VolunteerSpot link below to sign up if you are able to lend a hand
or contact Jacqueline.
Any help that you give, even if just for half an hour, is greatly appreciated.

It promises to be an afternoon filled with great food and family fun. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
