Headmaster Letter

Well, we are off and running with a new academic year at Rivermont. I would certainly like to take a moment to thank the entire faculty, staff and our incredible parents and families for making our first Unpack Your Backpack Night such a success with over 90% of our families in attendance. Thank you for your continued support to our school.

Likewise, we had a strong turnout for the Evening with the Headmaster last Tuesday night. If you were unable to attend, please send an email to Rachel Chamberlain at [email protected] for a YouTube link so that you have the opportunity to view the video. Our plan is to have these nights twice a year; once each fall with the other in the spring to keep our families updated on the current activities and future vision for Rivermont. There is so much happening right now at Rivermont it is vitally important to continue an open communication and dialogue.

There are a couple of wonderful programs coming up in the next several weeks that I would like to highlight. Our brave Lower School explorers are out in the tundra of the Quad Cities exploring nature as part of our Outdoors Learning Experience today. Manito-Wish is right around the corner for our Upper School students from September 3rd through the 7th and our Lions Volleyball Team opens the season on the 29th of August at 6:00 pm in the Gymnasium. Let's pack the gymnasium and roar our team to victory!

Lastly, there are a number of e-mails and letters going out this week covering a wide variety of programs and activities. Please take a moment to review each letter as they contain a myriad of important information such as instructions for accessing Blackbaud (our new Student Management System) that replaces Focus this year providing parents/students access to their grades, assignments and teacher correspondence.

Thank you again for your continued support in this upcoming year. Speaking for the entire faculty and staff we are incredibly excited about what is in store for this year...and we are just getting started!

Best,

Todd Zachary

Cap Collecting!

Collection bins are in Central Hall

Please bring in your clean, plastic caps and lids of all sizes and colors! They can be from pop bottles, laundry bottles, yogurt cups, shampoo bottles, etc. Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade will be using them to create a 4' x 8' mural in art class. Students will practice the process of up-cycling as they use items that would usually be discarded to the trash and will have the opportunity to see how quickly small objects accumulate. Mrs. Tomlinson will help the students discover how artists can use trash as a medium while encouraging environmental awareness and change.
