It is with mixed emotion that we announce the retirement of Linda Hampton, Middle and Upper School Science Faculty, at the end of the school year. For 29 years, Mrs. Hampton's passion rubbed off on everyone around her as she inspired Rivermont students to take an interest in science - even the "non-science" types! Though students have consistently taken top science fair honors under her guidance, Mrs. Hampton made a habit of treating every student as an award winner and valuing each project.
She has been the recipient of the Golden Apple Award for Exceptional Teaching and the Waterman Chair of Distinguished Teaching at Rivermont, as well as numerous outside awards, including Outstanding Mentor at both the Hawkeye Science and Engineering Fair and the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa. Over the past 29 years, one thing has remained consistent - everybody loves Mrs. Hampton. In fact, her students probably say it best!
"Never have I met a teacher so invested in the success and growth of her students as Mrs. Hampton. She truly impacted my love for science and my future in more ways than I can describe; she was not only a teacher, but also my mentor, friend, and role model." - Pavane Gorrepati ('12)
"Whenever our family reminisces about SKSM/Rivermont, Mrs. Hampton's name comes up and we smile. Her energy and love of science caused students to look forward to learning." - Nathaniel Krell ('99), Jonathan Krell ('05), and Jeanette Sendry (alum parent)
"Linda brought the touch, smell, and bubbling reactions in test tubes to life for children. She teaches much more than science, for she opens the minds and hearts of children with great and gentle communication." - James, Frieda, and Karl Lind (alum and parents)
We are grateful for the difference Mrs. Hampton has made in the lives of the students she taught and the faculty who were privileged to work with her. Though she will be greatly missed, she has certainly earned the pleasure of more time with her family and grandchildren. Please join us in offering our best wishes to Mrs. Hampton in her retirement. |
