Doin' It With Distinctiveness
Showcasing what sets Rivermont apart
A nutritious lunch improves concentration and ensures students have energy for the remainder of the day, but often children prefer to eat unhealthy foods, influenced by advertising and a fast food culture or without understanding of the health benefits (or lack there of) of their choices.
Rivermont's cafeteria encourages healthy eating by always offering a vegetarian meal option, salad bar, fresh cut produce, and other quick, nutritious items such as hard boiled eggs, string cheese, and yogurt. Chef June McWilliams and her assistant, Dina Edwards, know students by name and it's not uncommon for a student who returns to the line for "dessert" to be gently reminded that they have already had a "treat" and should make a better choice. Both teachers and Mrs. McWilliams and Mrs. Edwards are well aware of students with food allergies and which items are safe for them, as well.
Our cafeteria environment is unique, with teachers (not separate lunch monitors) eating with students in a family-like atmosphere, where students are comfortable visiting the faculty lunch table to ask for assistance. Visitors often comment on the quality and variety of the lunch menu, as well as the great cafeteria atmosphere. Who knew school lunch could be so impressive? |
