College Corner

The Common Application (CA) allows a student to complete a single application to apply to public and private Common Application Member colleges and universities across the U.S.  Each year, the number of schools accepting the CA increases.  Currently, 488 of the approximately 2,500 four year colleges and universities in the U.S. use the CA and 159 accept ONLY the CA.

At Rivermont, all juniors participate in the Common Application Workshop in the spring.

Welcome, Mr. Rader!

Please join us in welcoming our newest faculty member, John Rader.  Mr. Rader joined us Monday as Instrumental Music faculty/Band Director.  Mr. Rader taught instrumental music in the Pleasant Valley Community School District for 5 years, then pursued a Doctor of Chiropractic and practiced for 30 years, retiring 2 years ago.  Since then, he has been actively involved in music, teaching private lessons to students from the Bettendorf, North Scott, and Pleasant Valley School Districts.  He also taught with the Bettendorf Summer Band Program for 2 years.  Mr. Rader performs professionally and with several local ensembles and churches.  John Rader is a true asset and we are excited about the future of our instrumental music program!
Doin' It With Distinctiveness
Showcasing what sets Rivermont apart

A nutritious lunch improves concentration and ensures students have energy for the remainder of the day, but often children prefer to eat unhealthy foods, influenced by advertising and a fast food culture or without understanding of the health benefits (or lack there of) of their choices.

Rivermont's cafeteria encourages healthy eating by always offering a vegetarian meal option, salad bar, fresh cut produce, and other quick, nutritious items such as hard boiled eggs, string cheese, and yogurt.  Chef June McWilliams and her assistant, Dina Edwards, know students by name and it's not uncommon for a student who returns to the line for "dessert" to be gently reminded that they have already had a "treat" and should make a better choice.  Both teachers and Mrs. McWilliams and Mrs. Edwards are well aware of students with food allergies and which items are safe for them, as well.
Fruit & Juice
Our cafeteria environment is unique, with teachers (not separate lunch monitors) eating with students in a family-like atmosphere, where students are comfortable visiting the faculty lunch table to ask for assistance.  Visitors often comment on the quality and variety of the lunch menu, as well as the great cafeteria atmosphere.  Who knew school lunch could be so impressive?
