4th and 5th Grade WOW at BizTown
On Monday, 4th and 5th grade participated in Junior Achievement BizTown and wowed the director of the program.  Each Rivermont student received a trophy, which are traditionally reserved for one student of the day.  The director explained that in ten years this was the best example of how students should behave!

  Future Begins Here Sign

We are sad to share that Phyllis Miller, Director of Instrumental Music, has submitted her resignation and will be leaving us in January.  Mrs. Miller has been teaching band and lessons for over six years at Rivermont and we are grateful for the time she has so willingly given to our school.  She will be remembered as a teacher who was creative, enthusiastic, and took a personal interest in each young person in her groups.  We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.  We have begun the search for a new band teacher and will keep you posted on our progress.
Doin' It With Distinctiveness
Showcasing what sets Rivermont apart

Rivermont students meet with a dedicated science teacher beginning in Kindergarten, giving them the benefit of an expert in the field and exposing them to a wider variety of teaching styles.  Ms. Donovan is making exciting things happen in Lower School Science!

Kindergarteners are geologists this quarter!  The class used hand lenses, sifters, and rock baths to see rock's true features, sort rocks, and keep rock records.
  Science - Kindergarten
1st and 2nd graders are studying the human body and conducted labs to observe which bones move, protect, and support.  With their observations, students made comparisons between animal and human bones.
  Science - 1st and 2nd
3rd graders are studying plant and animal life cycles and began their first research lab explaining a specific plant's life cycle.
  Science - 3rd Grade
4th graders are learning about plant structures and conducted an experiment to see if celery was a vascular or nonvascular plant.  Also, a student brought in a deer heart and students explored the muscles, tissues, and structures.
  Science - 4th Grade
5th graders are studying cell structures and their functions.  Students recreated mitosis using a jello mold, household items, and small foods.
