Welcome, Ms. Donovan!
After several rounds of interviews, we have an exceptional new Lower School Science Teacher!  Ms. Kalie Donovan will join us on Tuesday.  She has a teaching degree with a science endorsement from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire.  As part of the interview process, Ms. Donovan taught a science lesson to our students.  Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious and each who met her believe she has what it takes to win over hearts while delivering engaging, challenging science curriculum.  Ms. Donovan says, "My classroom environment reflects that of a close family where everyone's thoughts and feelings are respected.  When this environment is established, students feel open to communicate and express themselves."

To welcome Ms. Donovan, we are hosting two Meet-and- Greet sessions during Parent-Teacher Conferences next week.  Stop by the Lower School science classroom on Thursday, October 25th between 5:00-6:30 p.m. or Friday, October 26th between 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. to meet Ms. Donovan and welcome her to Rivermont!

Showcasing what sets Rivermont apart

The Joseph Bettendorf Mansion was built on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi in 1915 - now we are lucky enough to study in it!  Did you know the city was named after the family who once called our campus home?
Mansion Pic
  • The Bettendorf brothers, William and Joseph, got their start in manufacturing with a metal plow wheel before moving on to rail car components at the Bettendorf Axle Co. - their most successful design was the one piece side truck frame.
  • The Bettendorf Co. plant was originally located in Davenport, but relocated to a town called Gilbert following two fires in 1902.  In 1903, the city's name was changed from Gilbert to Bettendorf.
  • The original estate  included a pool and bath house, tennis courts, formal gardens, greenhouse, and stables.  It was built overlooking the Bettendorf plant along the Mississippi.
