Wednesday Night Kitchen Coordinator Needed
St. John United Methodist Church in South Anchorage is hiring a Wednesday Night Supper Kitchen Coordinator (WKC) to organize Wednesday Night Suppers - a weekly meal September to May feeding approximately 250-275 people. The primary responsibilities of the WKC are overseeing the planning, ordering, budgeting, recruiting, scheduling, training and coordinating of the Wednesday Night Suppers with the objective of providing a welcoming, delicious, and wholesome meal for our guests. The WKC is also responsible for developing and maintaining kitchen use training and policies for other groups using the church's commercial kitchen to ensure it remains an organized, safe, and sanitary space.
This is a part time hourly position, approximately 15-17 hours per week, with availability needed all day Wednesday. Compensation is $15-20/hour D.O.E. The position runs annually approximately September to May with very limited summer hours.
For more information please see the job posting at stjohneagle.com/employment. To apply please send a cover letter, resume, and three references to Rev. Nico Romeijn-Stout at stjohn.sjumc@gmail.com.
St. John UMC is a theologically progressive church with vibrant ministries spanning all generations and reaching throughout Anchorage and around the world. We strive to be a welcoming family, and celebrate the diversity each person brings. No matter your doubts and questions, your race or ethnicity, your age, economic status, physical or mental abilities, your sexual orientation, your gender identity, no matter who you call family - we welcome you just as you are, for you are loved by God.
Dates Set for YOUTH 2019
The date and location for the next national gathering of United Methodist youth in 2019 are being announced years in advance to provide as much planning time as possible for local churches who want to join other youth from the connection at the event.
YOUTH 2019 will take place July 10-14, 2019, in Kansas City, Missouri, said Chris Wilterdink, Director of Program Development for Young People's Ministries (YPM), a division of Discipleship Ministries. Specifically, the event will take over the Kansas City Convention Center and Municipal Auditorium.
"Youth leaders are taking their own sustainability seriously, which is a great thing. Many are planning ahead, calendaring out events six to 18 months in advance," Wilterdink said. "We realize that attending YOUTH 2019 means youth leaders need time to get the event on the calendar, gauge interest with their church and begin fundraising."
The national gathering for UM youth takes place every four years, and at the last event in 2015, nearly 5,000 youth and adult leaders came together in Orlando for inspirational worship, meaningful workshops, service opportunities and fellowship. Attending the YOUTH event in 2015 was valuable for many youth and their adult leaders.

"Kansas City is very central within the United States," Wilterdink said. "Multiple affordable lodging options within walking distance of the convention center, along with the safety and fun of Kansas City's Power & Light District, make this an ideal place for the youth of the United Methodist Church to come together. We believe the national youth event builds value for local church youth ministries and we want to make it as easy as possible for youth leaders to attend this connectional event."

Could your congregation be a potential work site for a VIM team for next summer?  Dan Wilcox, the Volunteer In Mission coordinator for the conference is asking congregations to take time between now and September to consider what projects your church might have in 2017.  There are already three teams from the lower 48 that have shown interest in coming.  If you would like more information about hosting a VIM team, or what a team can do for you, please contact Dan at danielpwilcox@gmail.com.  He can connect you with a team now, or send you information that can help your congregation discuss whether or not a VIM team is right for you.
