Bishop's Blog
Bishop Hagiya talks about the power of prayer in his latest blog.  United Methodist's are joining together in 131 days of continuous prayer leading up to General Conference in May.  You can read his blog here.

The Alaska United Methodist Conference will have their day of prayer on February 13th.  Mark your calendars now so that you can participate.  The conference office will be sending out more detailed information in the next few weeks.
Deadline Approaching for CCCG
The informational flier and registration form are posted on the the conference website for the Creating Congregational Cultures of Generosity workshop.  We have also included the registration form for the Winter Rendezvous meetings, as they coincide with the CCCG event.  Keep in mind that the pastor and one finance or stewardship person from each church will have their transportation and registration cost covered to attend the CCCG event.  More lay members are encouraged to attend if they are able but their transportation costs would not be covered.  We want to thank the Tuell Center again for their generosity for making this event possible.  The CCCG event will be held at UMC of Chugiak on February 18-19, 2016.  The registration deadline is January 31st.
GCORR Agency Launches Blog Series 'All My Relations'
The United Methodist Commission on Religion and Race this week has launched a blog series, "All My Relations." The series, featuring a blog a day by United Methodists from around the globe, is aimed at cultivating unity in the midst of diversity. It honors Human Relations Day on Jan. 17 and the U.S. observance of the Rev. Martin Luther King's Jr.'s birthday on Jan. 18.

For the past 6 years, First UMC Anchorage has partnered with United Way to help raise money that specifically goes to the 211 program in Anchorage.  This program helps families with financial support with utilities and rental assistance.  Their goal is to keep their neighbors housed and prevent family financial instability from ever reaching a crisis point!

The event will take place on February 20th at 9:00 at First UMC Anchorage.  Visit to register yourself, form a team, or to just donate to the cause.

A Call to Action for All Children! This downloadable report provides statistics on the issue of AIDS and children and adolescents along with goals set for 2015. It can be used with small groups or for mission moments in your local church publications. This snapshot illustrates what some of the key AIDS organizations are doing to reduce the spread of AIDS by protection, care and support services. It was compiled by UNICEF, USAID, PEPFAR, The World Bank, UNAIDS and The Coalition for Children Affected by AIDS.
At A Glance - The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) collects data for the United States on various diseases including HIV & AIDS. This particular webpage provides information by risk group and race/ethnicity. More than 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV infection, and almost 1 in 8 (12.8%) are unaware of their infection. Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM), particularly young African American MSM, are most seriously affected by HIV. By race, African Americans face the most severe burden of HIV.
International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) - Webpage on stigma and discrimination as it relates to AIDS and women. Useful information for small group discussions and church newsletters.

Former NFL Player Trains for Other Side of Sundays
Colin Brown first felt called to ministry around the age of 12. But like many 12-year-old boys, he also had the dream of being a professional athlete. With one of those goals firmly checked off the list, the former NFL linebacker is now an intern with Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Missouri. Read the story.
