Bishop Grant Hagiya Offers This Message to the Oregon-Idaho Conference
My heart aches, and my prayers go out to all of those who were killed or injured in the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College. Would you please join me in sending your prayers for the injured to receive God's healing powers, and for God's comfort for the families and loved ones of those who tragically lost their lives? Let us call upon the power of God to heal and comfort during this challenging time.

Be the Hope,

Grant

United Methodist Communications to Host Pre-General Conference Briefing
United Methodist Communications will be hosting a time of preparation for the 2016 General Conference of The United Methodist Church at the Pre-General Conference Briefing on January 20-22 in Portland, Oregon.

The briefing will inform delegates, church and secular journalists, and other interested parties about topics that will be considered by the denomination's legislative body when it meets May 10-20 in Portland.

At the briefing, attendees will learn how General Conference will operate and how it will be different from previous conferences, as well as discuss major legislation, Christian conferencing and key activities. This opportunity is especially helpful for first-time delegates as they prepare for their new role.

The briefing is also an opportunity for attendees to get to know each other and to become familiar with the 2016 General Conference host city and venue.

The event will begin with a welcome reception on Wednesday, January 20, at 5 p.m., followed by the briefing on January 21 and 22 at the Oregon Convention Center.  An early bird registration rate of $199 will be offered through November 30; after that date, the cost will be $229. Participants will be responsible for their own travel and lodging costs.

Further details, the agenda, and hotel and registration information are available online.
PET girl PET International Celebrates Affiliate Relationship with United Methodist Men
PET International (PI) celebrated a new official relationship with the General Commission on United Methodist Men (UMM), the agency charged with ministry to men for the United Methodist Church at its annual conference in Austin, TX, September 25-26, 2015.

Dan Ramsey, President of the National Association of Conference Presidents of UMM, was present to affirm the new relationship and indicated it was a great "fit" for the UMM national organization with its four major program goals of developing Christian leaders, church renewal, ministry with the poor and global health. UMM has some 4,000 local church organizations in all 50 states and structured programs in 57 annual conferences.

PET is an acronym for Personal Energy Transportation. The organization is faith-based, volunteer-driven, non-sectarian and cost-effective. PET has strong Methodist "roots" founded by UM pastor/mission executive (Mel West) and UM Missionary (Larry Hills).  PET mobility carts are built by a corps of some 800 volunteers that operate as independent affiliates (shops) in 24 locations across the USA and in Zambia. Since 1994 over 50,000 PETs have been distributed free to the leg-disabled in 100 countries world-wide. PET has a production volume of over 5,000 PET carts each year that includes the hand cranked cart for adults and children and special "Pull-PET" for the severely disabled that have no upper body strength. Members of UMM are a major source of volunteers for PET and PET was featured as a hands-on mission project at the quadrennial "Gathering" of UMM in Nashville in both 2009 and 2013.

It costs $300.00 to underwrite a PET Mobility cart.  To learn more about PET go to www.petinternational.org
