We are sorry there was no e~Aurora last week.  We were so busy playing catch up from Annual Conference that we just didn't have any time to get it done!
Bishop Grant Hagiya Bishop's Blog
In the midst of Annual Conference season, Bishop Hagiya has taken a moment to write a new blog.  He talks about Getting There Early.
Superintendent's Blog
We have had a busy few weeks!  I am currently Co-Deaning camp at Birchwood Camp this week so there won't be a new blog post.

Have a great week!
Wildfires in Alaska

You've probably heard by now that there are two wildfires raging here in Alaska right now, one in Willow and another in the Kenai area.  The Willow fire directly impacts our ministry and mission here in Alaska.

The Willow fire is out of control and a cause for concern. Both the church and the parsonage are within the mandatory evacuation radius. The Wilcox Family has evacuated to the Wasilla parsonage of Robert & Tori Hicks. Both Dan and Kris Ann are working with the Red Cross in the evacuation centers. Their three kids are at Birchwood Camp. Fran Lynch and her husband JD are still in their home since they are outside the mandatory radius but their cars are packed and ready to move when notified. Retired UM pastor Steve Eldred who has a house in Willow is in Nebraska doing an interim. His wife BJ has been evacuated and the plan is for her to fly to Nebraska to be with Steve. Their house is still intact but is in the fire zone. As of this morning, three homes of members were already lost.

Debbie Ervin, our Disaster Response Coordinator is already on the ground working closely with the Red Cross.  Once needs are identified (i.e. Food, supplies, Clothing), we will let you all know.  An emergency grant has also been requested from UMCOR.  In the meantime, please continue to pray for all involved.
Annual Conference Follow-up
Thank you to everyone for putting on a successful Annual Conference.  If you haven't had a chance to fill out your evaluation form, feel free to do it online here!

We wanted to thank St. John for being a wonderful host church.  They kept us fed during breaks and provided the child care workers for the delegates that needed it.  There were four groups that provided meals for us: St. John UMW, St. John Youth, First UMC Narthex Coffee Station Renewal Group, and First UMW.  AK Child & Family provided cake for their Quasquicentennial.  Thank you also to those that housed delegates and provided transportation.

Awards were given out to a couple of people.  The Harry Denman Evangelism award was given to Pastor Phil Campbell of Northern Light United Church.  Also, the first ever Alaskan Bishop's Award was given to Lonnie Brooks by Bishop Hagiya.  Turnagain UMC was recognized with the One Matters Award, which focuses on a churches accomplishment in membership growth.  The award came with a $1000 check.

Videos were used during the plenaries but a couple of them didn't want to work.  Please take the time to view the videos below.  Here is the wonderful Disaster Preparedness and Volunteer In Mission video.  Debbie Ervin did a wonderful job putting it together!  Alaska Child & Family also wanted to make sure that you were able to see their video.  View the 125th Anniversary of AK Child & Family video here.
