Invitation: New Day Alaska Seeks New Lead Team Members
New Day Alaska, a mission outreach to residents in the neighborhoods of Mountain View and Airport Heights, needs new Lead Team members. We need to replace several members, including Pastors Dave Beckett and Kirimi Ikiugu, who have moved away. New Day seeks to reach people in culturally diverse neighborhoods who have not yet felt comfortable affiliating with churches. We offer weekly meetings to share food, fellowship, scripture, music, and Christian love and support. We have agreed upon a personal Rule of Life involving regular prayer, Bible study, and missional emphasis. Meetings have been held at the Mountain View Boys and Girls Club. Anchor Park UMC is our Anchor Church, providing administrative support, and will also provide meeting space.
If you would like to be part of this interesting and Biblical ministry, please come to a Lead Team meeting on Monday, August 18, 6 pm at Anchor Park UMC, 2300 Oak Drive. Contacts: Abbe Dunning-Newbury, 907-696-7090, dunning.newbury@mtaonline.net; Pastor Doug Handlong, 277-0152, office@anchorpark.org; or Crystal Feaster, umc@gci.net.

Back-to-School Resources Available on GBOD Website A collection of back-to-school resources to help congregations and families prepare for the new school year - from prayers and litanies to articles about bullying - are now available at the General Board of Discipleship (GBOD) website. The resources for youth, children and adults were compiled by staff members at GBOD to help church leaders plan for the back-to-school season. "Our back-to-school collection of resources reflects how GBOD is serving the needs of families and church leaders," said Steve Horswill-Johnston, Executive Director of Communications & Brand Strategy at GBOD. "The fall often represents a return to a routine, when we rededicate ourselves not only to school, but to our church and family. We hope these resources will be utilized by church leaders in their work with their communities." In addition to individual families, Christian educators and others in the church who need to prepare curriculum and communicate with church members about preparing for this busy season will find the collection helpful. The collection is available online at www.gbod.org/leadership-resources/back-to-school-resources.
