Superintendent Transitional Time
Our new superintendent, Carlo Rapanut, is on vacation until July 6th.  He will begin coming into the office on July 7th.  Until then, Bob Smith can be reached for Superintendent issues at 330-7770 or 334-9606.
Misisonal Opportunities at FUMC, Anchorage

A Place at the Table

First UMC & First Samoan UMC will be serving a chili dinner to the community once a month. The first day will be Sunday, July 6th at 5:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to join. Please contact the church office at 272-2112 for more information.

 

Bake Sale for Imagine No Malaria

On Friday, July 4, FUMC will be hosting a bake sale! All proceeds will go to the "Imagine No Malaria" campaign. They will be set up in front of FUMC during the parade. Come by and enjoy some wonderful treats!

Lay School of Theology Lay School of Theology
The brochures for the Lay School of Theology were fresh off the press and handed out at Annual Conference.  If you weren't there and haven't seen any sitting around your church, you can download the brochure here to find out more about the classes offered.  It will be held at St. John UMC on September 19 & 20.
Celebrate Flag Day with AK Child & Family
Bring out your family and friends for AK Child & Family (formerly Alaska Children's Services) Flag Day, Wednesday, July 9th from 5:30-8:30 pm.  AK Child & Family is located at 4600 Abbott Road in Anchorage. This fun event is a fundraiser for AK Child & Family (residential treatment home for children) and includes food, ice cream, live music, face painting, balloons, games for children and much more. Free parking and shuttle at Service High to the event. Consider buying a ticket for a child or another family you know!

Schaefer Reinstated
Frank Schaefer has been reintstated as a United Methodist pastor and has been appointed to serve in the California-Pacific Annual Conference.  He had been defrocked for conducting the same-sex wedding of his son.  Read the story here.
Birchwood Camp Birchwood Camp News

Seasonal Cook needed at Birchwood Camp 

Birchwood Camp is looking for a Camp Cook to help in the kitchen during July and part of August. Experience in food service is preferred; the cook will be working along Birchwood Camp's other food service staff to provide healthy and delicious meals to campers and guests.
