May 2016

Things continue to move right along here at Wood-N-Whimsies.  I just don't know where the time goes.   Sorry for missing an April Newsletter, things just got away from me.  We had to get a grand baby fix in so off to Georgia we went.  I got a couple of HUGE inlay orders while we were gone so it took me a bit to get those done.  Hopefully, I'm back on track but as a small business owner, you will never ever ever hear me complain I'm too busy..busy is a good thing when you run your own business!
Tim completed his second eye surgery a couple of weeks ago so no more cataracts causing him double/triple vision.   So stomach is all better, eyes all better, now if we can just get his knee fixed he'll be as good and new and I can increase my Honey-Do list!
In March I reported that Tim's bee loss was very minimal this winter.  Well, I spoke too soon.  Shortly after our break in weather, we had a cold snap.  Unfortunately the bees were already in forage mode and the cold was just too much for them.   Tim lost all but three hives.   The hives that survived were native to Missouri so they were able to withstand the temperature change.   Of course we were looking forward to a 600+ lb honey harvest this year, instead we'll probably not be able to harvest at all.  He's not going to let it get him down.  He's just learned to stick with local bees and build back up from calls he'll get this summer for swarms.
Since Pam continues to help out with the phones, I'm looking into some phone systems that will allow you to choose between placing and order vs asking a technical question.  This will enable me to route the calls to Tim when you just need help.
Gramma T we keep riding but we are not getting anywhere

The Berea Line will not be available much longer with us so get them while you can.
I'm not even sure what to say to this one.  I guess different businesses just have different ideas.  Late last year my customers asked me to carry the Lever Action kits and since I love my customers I set about getting them.  When we contacted Berea they were happy to sell them to us but not just those kits, they required that I carry several different of their kits.  We chose 4 addt'l styles which looked like they may be popular, bought them and set up a page for Berea.   While the Lever Actions have sold quite well the others have just not moved very well.  We have continued to purchase the Lever Actions and have spent, what we felt, was a decent chunk of money on them.   I went to order them again the other day and was informed via email (not even a call to discuss)that I was no longer eligible to purchase the kits because I wasn't a loyal enough customer.  This meaning I haven't been purchasing enough of their other kits.  It doesn't matter that in a few months I've purchased a large quantity of Lever Actions.   I was informed that these kits are considered a Loyalty Reward only for those businesses that purchase a regular quantity of their other kits, therefore I could no longer get them at a dealer price to re-sell.    I don't get it.  I'm buying kits from you so you are making money.  I've got a pretty good idea what you are paying and you are making a good amount of profit from me.   I'm just not going to do business with a company that will sell me any kit they have except for the one kit that I am actually able to sell.  Either you want to do business with me or you don't.   I already deal with a company that doesn't release all their kits to vendors, I'm not going to let another company do that to me.  I'm not going to buy things just to sit on my shelf so that I can get one kit.  My customer base just happens to prefer other kits.  I'm very sorry that I won't be able to supply the Lever Kits for you anymore.  I know you like them and I hate to lose the business but there really isn't anything I can do about it.  If something changes, I'll be sure to let you know.   I'll continue to watch for new kits that I can get my hands on to provide you the variety that you like.

LATE JULY
Just a heads up.   We have a family wedding coming in late  July.  Wood-N-Whimsies will be open and shipping, however, since both I and my Inlay backup will be at the wedding, any inlays ordered during this time will have a shipping delay.  Any inlay ordered after 10:oopm on July 19th through July 26th, will not begin to ship until July 27th.  I'll do them first in first out.   Just wanted to give you notice so you can plan accordingly.  I'll remind you in June and July's Newsletters too.

Since so many of the new kits coming out are 3/8" tubes, I'm going to start making the Bolt Action Inlays in a 2-1/2" length like I do for the 27/64".   I do have to get through the ones I already have cut and turned but it won't take long.   I'm going to review the lengths of the various kits and may make them even longer, I have not decided yet.   The image size will remain the same, there will just be a bit more blank for you to work with so you don't have to add extenders if you don't want to.   I do offer extender bands in all the colors of wood that I have.   I have had several customers use those extenders as accents on the nautical Pen with the Pirate Inlay and it looks awesome!

10 inch Inlays.  I've had lots of requests for the inlays on a 10" width tube also.   I'm getting all the particulars set up for this and will be offering my inlays in that size VERY SOON!
Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter.  There was no newsletter issued for February in case you were wondering why you did not receive one.

Sincerely,
