name of Madison Jones. Madison will be our fourth grand child. A week or so after Madison arrives, Tracey and I will be off to Atlanta, Georgia to meet her.
We will be in Atlanta for a few days and we will be back to work soon. While we are out, Pam, Curtis and Ryan will be here to take care of your pen making needs. If you call us during this time, please leave a message and Pam will return your call as soon as possible. For technical questions which she feels she cannot answer accurately for you, she will contact me and I will return your call from Atlanta as soon as I can.
Christmas will be here before you know it and as it gets closer we run out of more items. A Few shortages happen every year. We cannot predict what will be the most popular items so cutting off the shortages at the pass is not really possible on some of the less ordered items. Please do not put off your Christmas gift turning needs to the last minute. If you need it we can generally get it in time for you if we are given enough lead time. Remember, as Christmas gets closer, the US Mail Service gets slower. What usually gets to you in two days will take a few more days to arrive so please plan ahead.Tracey's two cents worth: Remember, if you change your email address and subscribe to our Newsletter you'll need to update your Newsletter profile to get our Newsletter at your new email address. The easiest way is to click on the Join our mailing list link on our home page. When you put your "old" email in you'll get a message telling you that you are already subscribed and if you would like to update your profile to click on the "submit" button and instructions will be emailed to you. Once you get the email there will be a link to "update your profile". Click on that. You'll be brought to a page that will display your current email and next to it will be a link to "Update" Click on that, make your changes, and Save. That's all there is to it and you'll start getting your Monthly Newsletter at your new email address!

TECH TALK
| |
I would like to address a problem that has arisen with the casting of Polyester Resin pen blanks. The above rough textured condition, according to the technical department at Interplastics Corp is the result of under catalyzing the resin. Interplastics Corp is the maker of the Silmar 41 Polyester Resin which we sell.
In speaking with some other experts in Orlando, Florida they agree with Interplastics and said it could also be a result of cleaning your molds with distilled solvents. The residue from the solvents will degas into the resin and also cause this same result.
The folks in Orlando which we have a mutual contact with, produce castings of all sorts for Disney, Universal Studios, and Busch-Gardens among other amusement parks, I trust their judgement, they have been doing this for a very long time.
As I mention in the Resin Casting Video, The amount of catalyst you use will change depending on the ambient temperature and humidity on the day you pour your castings. You will need to experiment with different ratios to determine what works best for you in the part of the country in which you live.
I personally have never seen the above result but then again I have only been casting for a couple of years now.
The castings created above were done in Las Vegas, Nevada where ambient temperatures are high and humidity is almost non-existent. By adding a couple more drops of catalyst per ounce the problem was solved.
Keep in mind, the more catalyst you use, the more brittle your casting will become and the more likely it will break apart during drilling and turning. If you use a skew chisel you can greatly reduce the risk of breaking.

COMING SOON

The next Mold-Miser mold will be for the 7mm tubes. You will be able to make castings that are five inches long and also for several other lengths for some of the more popular 7mm pen kits like the Slimline and the European kit. The mold will be more expensive but it will be like getting several molds in one and will be very reasonably priced for what it will be able to do. Yes, Yes for all those emailing and calling, Tracey is not leaving out the Coast Guard. She is currently working on the inlay and hopes to have it done for the next Newsletter, HOWEVER, with the arrival of Madison, this may delay her a bit. ' Another big request is for the Military Inlays to be designed for the Bolt Action kit. We will be working on this and try our best to get that done in the very near future.
