Summer here so far in Monett, Missouri has been very nice. We have not yet hit 95 degrees. Last year we were in triple digits before the first of June.
     I guess I should thank my lucky stars for the nice weather. Some rain would be nice though.
     I hope everyone had a nice July 4th holiday. As for me, other than grilling the hamburgers, hotdogs and beer brats, I didn't do a whole lot of anything.
     Tracey no longer does any custom inlay blanks. If it is something that we feel we can sell and make a little money back for the hours of R&D time invested then she will put it on her "wish list" for consideration.

CA Finishing Techniques

     I get asked on a regular basis about the process I use for applying a CA finish. I use three different techniques depending on what I am using the blank for and of course what I feel like doing at the time. All three work well for me in their own ways.
     Be sure to check them all out and see what you think would work best for you. If you already have a technique that works for you, great, use it and don't change a thing. Many folks have trouble in this area and need a little help. There is not a better or longer lasting finish than the CA Finish.
     Do not apply CA glue when you are experiencing very high humidity conditions. Such as when it is raining outside and things are a bit damp. Also refrain from overheating the CA by sanding it at high speeds. This will cause the CA to expand and then when it cools down the likelihood of the finish developing cracks is greatly increased.
     Make sure that the inside of your blank is completely clean on the ends where your parts will be pressed in. CA glue does not like to be stretched too much, it will crack.
WHAT'S NEW
 
     We have some new inlay blanks that are now available. The first one is the US Air Force Emblem which is dyed blue maple on a holly background. Holly is very susceptible to absorbing carryover dust so sanding this blank is not recommended.
     Turn with a sharp skew to avoid the need for sanding. Apply a CA finish for a great looking piece.
      The Purple Heart Medal looks great on the alder wood background. This is all made from various colored/dyed woods. Get one and make a nice pen for a wounded warrior in your life. All inlays blanks we sell are made for the Monet / Sierra / Gatsby/ WallStreet II or Mesa pen kits.
      Make sure to check your blank length when you are trimming the ends of inlay blanks. Their are slight variations in tube length from one kit brand to the next.
     Army Special Forces Patch is available. Dyed Yellow and Blue on an Alder blank. I think that the July 4th holiday has brought out the military lover in Tracey.

Here is a really cool target for the archery tournament lovers. Made from holly, and some dyed woods on a maple wood blank.
     As always, Tracey's blanks come to you pre-assembled and ready for you to glue up and turn.
     For the bowlers, here is a very nice blank to express your fever for the lanes.
     Baseball fans, never fear. The sillhouette series has expanded to include a baseball pitcher and a batter. Both blanks are sure to be a home run "hit" for  baseball fans!














    The new Poly Pearl blanks this month are the POLY41 (Woodstock), POLY42 (Gold Rush) and POLY43 (Firestorm). The blanks are just gorgeous. Pictures do not do them justice, you have to see them to believe them.
     We also have some new wine bottle stopper blanks available.
