you will not be able to phone your orders in. We will be closed on December 7, 24, 25 and 31. We will also be closed on January 1st 2013. We are closed on
Saturdays and Sundays as well. As always, the website will be up and available for you to place your order over the internet 24/7/365. We will process your order on our next business day. NOTE: Internet orders placed on the 7th (mentioned above) will be processed. Our wonderful helpers will be in, just Tracey and I will not be available to handle the phone. Just to be sure that you receive your goodies before Christmas, you will need to have your order placed by no later than 10pm on December 17th. With the extra workload placed on the US Postal Service, it would be impossible to expect anything to be delivered before Christmas if it is sent out any later. The two to three day package delivery that the post office offers for Priority Mail will not happen during the Christmas delivery season. It's more like three to five business days. Another friendly reminder, we do not ship any orders out via Next Day or Overnight Service so please order early. (We are too rural to make it to the main hub for Overnight shipping) We had a glitch in the laser cutting machine late last month which set us back about a week in getting the Inlay Blank orders out. We had to buy a new motherboard and unfortunately the one which was sent to us was bad too. It happened just before the Thanksgiving weekend so we had to wait until Monday to get resolved. If this glitch affected you then we sincerely apologize for the delay in our service to you. Tracey pulled a couple of all-nighters and is caught up now so there should be no further delays (knock on turning wood) in getting your Inlay orders out in a timely manner. We've ordered a second machine which should arrive by the end of the year to make sure that we don't get caught like this again. We consider it a very expensive insurance policy!

Fatline Pen Turning

Last month we began a series of videos featuring the Slimline Pen Kit. We are continuing this month with the second pen idea that is called a Fatline Pen.
Here again, we will be deleting the centerband and replacing it with a piece of decorative trim. These pens can be made as thick or as thin as you want.
Older folks who have a touch of arthritis in their hands prefer a thicker pen because it is easier to hold without getting cramped hands so quickly. A nice thick pen without a lot of weight to it is best. At least for me anyway, I am one of those folks.
Again, you will need a Slimline Pen kit and a chunk of scrap wood or acrylic to use as your accent piece. Be sure that the scrap piece is long enough to handle safely during the trimming process on the drill press. I would recommend no less than about 1/2" to 3/4" in length so as to get a nice straight hole through it.
By cutting back the tenon further and repeating the procedure, you can add multiple colored stripes to the blank to create some really nice designs. This process can also be used on any pen kit.

WHAT'S NEW

We have been asked to carry Abranet in some other size variations. A popular size is the 3/4" wide by 15 foot roll. We have answered the call and now offer Abranet in this size plus we have added the 2-3/4 X 30 foot roll to the inventory. We carry the rolls in 120, 180, 240, 320 and 400 grit. Since the laser had been down for a week, Tracey was working in ultra panic mode and was not able to make a new inlay blank this month. As soon as the Holiday rush is over, she'll get back to work on your great requests and ideas along with some projects of her own.
We have a new kit which has been asked for by some of our out-of the-box key chain turners. It is called a blind key chain kit (KCCLOSED). It features a swiveling key ring which is easier to handle your keys on and keep them from getting twisted up in the ring and in your pocket. To make a regular key fob that you can turn on your mandrel between 7mm bushings, just add a 24kt gold slimline pen cap the the other end. The kit is $1.19. If you want to add the separate cap to the other end of your turning or perhaps a stylus soft touch tip, they are available on the pen parts page. (XPENCAP or STYTIP**)
You can also purchase just the 24kt gold key ring (XKEYRING) for $.39 each.
 We have a new Polyester Resin Dye available which can be used to create virtually any color you want. Mix the dyes to vary the colors and match again a color wheel. Most paint stores will give you one for free. It lets you know the formula needed to create your custom color.
There are eight mixable dyes. The more drops per ounce you add the bolder your color gets. Any more than twelve drops per ounce is overkill though.
You can add Pearl White Pearl-Ex Powder to add a pearlescent effect but go light on the drops of dye per ounce, you would not want to blank out the pearlescent swirls.
Speaking of Pearl-Ex Powders, we now sell the pearl-Ex powders in a one gram sample pack. Buy a sample of the color you think you might want and see if it's right for you. One gram of powder will color up to two blanks standard size 3/4 X 5 inch blanks with a deep rich pearly color hue.
We have some more great new Poly Pearl colors which are pictured below: Warning------Use a very sharp skew or very sharp fingernail gouge to turn these blanks. A chattering scraper type tool will
pit, chip and destroy these blanks.
