The Month of Elul

Here is an excerpt from, and a link to, an article about the Month of Elul. It is from RitualWell, a website of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College.

Renewing Ourselves and Our Visions in the Month of Elul
By Tamara Cohene
The Jewish month of Elul is traditionally a time for personal reflection and spiritual preparation for the New Year. It offers a structured opportunity to examine what is holding us back from being who we really want to be. If we use the period of Elul to take concrete steps towards becoming advocates for change, together we can make a difference! Continued.

The Jewish Reconstructionist Movement holds a series of PEARL calls each year. PEARL (Providing Education and Resources for Leadership) is a distance-learning program designed to provide meaningful information and strategies for congregational leaders, members, clergy, educators, and staff. Expert speakers partner with Reconstructionist movement professional staff and lay leaders to help strengthen congregations and chavurot, foster leadership, deepen Jewish spiritual life, and continue tikkun olam/social justice work.

PEARL sessions for 2013 are finished, but you can listen to more than sixty calls from 2008-2012 at www.jewishrecon.org/pearl. You can watch for the 2014 PEARL schedule and register for future calls at the same link.

Over the Rainbow - Washington State LGBTQ Aging & Long-Term Care Summit

Over the Rainbow will convene nationally known and regional experts who understand the needs of this diverse community. This exciting forum will review what can be done to avoid re-closeting individuals as they reach their golden years and how best to embrace and manage associated needs. The program will include a key note address, break-out time with a choice of three sessions, and a closing plenary. More info here
