Kadima Community School Tzedakah Report
This year, Kadima students, pre-K through 7th grade, pooled the tzedakah funds they collected throughout the year to make a Kadima Community School tzedakah contribution to Heifer International. Contemplative and educational discussions in each class were followed by a vote for their preference of the contribution to be made.
The collective decision yielded a purchase of three Flocks of Chicks, two Flocks of "Hope," and a share of a goat. (A Flock of Hope may include chicks, ducks and/or goslings, depending on cultural, climate and dietary differences among peoples. In almost no time, egg production will begin!) Heifer International's mission is to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the poverty and care for the Earth.
Additionally, the students of Team Keshet, 4th and 5th grades, voted to send $70 of their class' tzedakah funds to the Sister Schools organization. Sister Schools is dedicated to giving children a better understanding of the world in which they live and helping them experience the life-changing effect of personally giving to people less fortunate than themselves.

BULLETIN BOARD
Teen Opportunities in Israel
DLHS is a new study abroad program in Israel for teens. Here's a description of the program. Dror Leadership High School is semester-long program in Israel for 10th and 11th grade students. Its mission is to help its students become leaders in their Jewish communities, develop a passion for social justice, and build a lifelong connection to Israel and Jewish peoplehood. The weekly schedule includes learning Hebrew, attending an Israeli school with a diverse group of Israeli peers (while maintaining a separate English-speaking class), and a service-learning project which will focus on tikun olam and developing leadership skills. The program also includes seminars, trips, and hikes throughout Israel, including a seminar on co-existence in the Galilee. The school will be located in the Northern town of Karmiel, which will allow students to interact with Israelis on a daily basis in school and around town. The students will live in dormitories on a nearby kibbutz. Along with certified teachers at school, the group will have experienced counselors with them on kibbutz and during trips. Responsible for activities outside the classroom, the counselors will help students understand Israeli society better and help students create a safe space and positive, fun community where they can gain confidence and build lifelong friendships. The goal is to combine the academic rigor of high school with the best of Jewish camping. Throw Israel in the mix and you have a life-changing experience that will build lifelong friendships and help students come back more independent, responsible, and socially active in their communities. If you're interested or have questions, please visit the DHLS website or contact George Stevens, educational director. _________________________________________________
