Survey Results!

Just a small number of people took our first survey, but useful info was obtained. You should take our next survey! It would be helpful to Kadima to understand peoples' needs and preferences.

On which days do you prefer to attend an event?
Most people prefer to attend events on Saturdays or Sundays. No one wants to go on Wednesdays. Friday is the third most desirable day to hold an event, with Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday tied for doable but not preferred.

Is the availability of childcare provided by Kadima a factor in determining whether you'll attend an event?
20 percent said that childcare availability is not a factor
80 percent said that it is not applicable
0 percent said that childcare availability is a factor.

Which Kadima events have you attended?
One hundred percent of the respondents have attended High Holidays services and the auction. The second most attended events were Kabbalat Shabbatot/potluck dinners. Kadima's Passover seder, adult education programs, and/or celebrations of other holidays have been attended by 50 percent of the respondents. Twenty-five percent of those who responded have attended a Shabbat service and/or an art sale.

Do you have any suggestions for future speakers or events?
Mahjong lessons and the movie, Tiles That Bind. Repeat prior presentations on such topics as Arabic calligraphy, Hebrew calligraphy, symbolism in Jewish art, etc. Presentations on Jewish culture without political content. Jewish Chorale

Seattle Jewish Chorale concert
From Strength to Strength, Songs for the Journey

This Sunday! June 2 at 7 pm at Town Hall Seattle

1119 8th Ave., Seattle

This year, Seattle Jewish Chorale sings of travel: of the courage, persistence and grace it requires. It may be a journey to a new place or toward a new understanding, the road to forgiveness, or the road home. The diverse repertoire presented in the spring concert, From Strength to Strength, will take you on a journey through time and space, stopping to savor Sephardic melodies from Turkey and Yemen, as well as popular Yiddish-American tunes. We will travel through the desert by camel caravan in the evocative Orcha Bamidbar, experience the awe of Moses and the Israelites' safe passage across the sea, and feel the exuberant celebration of Miriam, Dancing with the Women. Ma Navu,
Making the Desert Bloom and Naomi Shemer's classic
Jerusalem of Gold will surround us with the sounds and rhythms of the Promised Land, both ancient and new. And finally, arriving home, we are reminded "how good it is to be together," in a rousing new gospel-style setting of Hinei Mah Tov. Travel with us through this poignant, energizing and uplifting music--no passport required! Kadimaniks Suzie Hellerstein and Sima Kahn sing in the chorale. More information and purchase tickets here.

Film: Barzan

Sam Malkandi, who immigrated from Iraq in 1995, lived in Kirkland with his family; they had really assimilated, and were very excited about American culture. But in 2005, Malkandi was linked by the U.S. government to an al-Quaida operative. Held at the Federal Detention Center at SeaTac for five years, he was deported to Iraq in 2010. His family remained here, and his wife still lives in Kirkland. Directed by Alex Stonehill and Bradley Hutchinson. As they crafted Barzan, the filmmakers saw its focus change slightly. It started out with the question: Is he innocent or guilty? It changed to be a lot more about: What is he innocent or guilty of, and how do we as a society treat and judge people who aren't citizens versus people who are?
