Matzah roca 3

That was another darn good party!
Year three of a fine tradition!
Thank you Kadima B'nei Mitzvah students, Kadima grads, Kathy Gallagher, and Sharron Lerner, for spending last Saturday making and packing Chocolate Matzah Almond Roca for Kadima's Pesach Fundraiser.

ONLY 8 boxes left for sale!
We'll reserve up to 3 for you if you pre-order before Sunday. On Sunday, any boxes not tagged with a pre-order tag will be available for point of sale purchase. $10 a box. Order via Sharron Lerner.

Guided by Sharron's leadership and expertise at planning and organizing, a gaggle of Kadima B'nei Mitzvah students and grads made and packed around 55 cartons of delicious Matzah Almond Roca.

Making the Matzah Roca is a multi-step process that involves melting, spreading, stacking, baking, more melting, more spreading, sprinkling, more baking, freezing, waiting, breaking apart, sorting, packing, and labeling. It's labor intensive and time consuming. And the end product is oh s-o-o-o good!

Teamwork, camaraderie, music, pizza, and unfettered mess making -- what a party!

We predict that we'll raise upwards of $300!

Kadima Passover seder
March 31, 5:00 pm
Prospect Church
1919 E Prospect St., Seattle

We will gather at 4:30 to schmooze. The seder will begin at 5:00.

Please RSVP by the end of the day on Tuesday, March 26, either in the "Event Conversation" section of the evite we sent this week, or to Kathy Gallagher (because the office email isn't working). Please let us know what you will bring (see below).

The Kadima Haggadah represents many years of evolution as a progressive Jewish community. It respects tradition while making the story of Passover accessible and meaningful for modern Jews. Interweaving song, inspiration from our own and others' histories of standing up for justice, and appreciation of the crucial role of women in our liberation, a Kadima Seder is refreshingly relevant and empowering.

Seder food guidelines. We will serve entrees for carnivores and entrees for vegetarians. No dairy whatsoever. Food standards will follow Ashkenazi seder tradition. No grains or grain-derived ingredients whatsoever except for matzoh-based products; no dried legumes. Quinoa is permissible.

If your last name begins with...please bring, to feed 10 people:
A - G   Poultry, fish, or meat entree
H - N   Vegetarian entree
O - S   Side dish, soup, or salad (including matzoh ball soup or gefilte fish)
T - Z   Dessert.

We also ask if you would bring a ritual food for the seder and seder plates. You don't have to bring the entire quantity. Just a portion! We believe we will need these quantities:
5 dozen boiled eggs
8 medium handfuls parsley, torn to "dipping size"
3 to 4 heads of Romaine lettuce, cut or torn to sandwich size
4 to 6 jars of horseradish root (not horseradish sauce)
8 "shank bones" (really chicken necks, beet roots, or lamb shank bones)
16 cups (at least) charoset (mixture of apples, nuts, wine, and cinnamon)
8 Beitzah (roasted egg)
8 whole oranges.
2 cases (5 boxes each) Osem Matzot
1 canister of salt.

Beverages: Please bring wine or juice for you and your companions and a bottle to share with your tablemates.

Can you lend us a seder plate, a white tablecloth, and/or a vase so we can create a pretty seder? Please deliver your tablecloth and vase to Kadima House by March 25. We have people who can stop by your house to get them if you can't come to Kadima House. Bring your seder plate to the seder.

Because we are asking many people to bring many things, it's important that we generate a good record of who's bringing what. Please let us know, either in the evite "Event Conversation" section or at kzmg@mindspring.com, if you are able to provide matzoh ball soup, gefilte fish, ritual food, a tablecloth, a vase, and/or a seder plate.

Child care provided at no cost. Let us know if you will need it!

Cost: $18 adults, $5 children ages 5-12; children 4 and under, no charge. (No one turned away--pay as you are able.)

We need volunteers! We need people to set up the room, set tables, prepare seder plates, provide childcare, clean up, and help with other tasks. Please let us know how you will help in the evite "Event Conversation " area or at kzmg@mindspring.com.

You can also RSVP, advise us about what you're bringing, and volunteer by calling Kadima House: (206) 547-3914.

Thank you and Happy Passover!
