SJAWA

As a follow up on our last Social Justice Group presentation, a message from Brynn Smith from Safe & Just Alternatives Washington  to the Kadima Community:

"We've recently received news that our death penalty repeal legislation will have a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee in March. We're really trying to pack the room and indicate to legislators that this isn't just a fringe movement.

"Join us on March 6 at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on House Bill 1504, a bill to eliminate the death penalty and replace it with lifetime incarceration without parole. Immediately following the hearing, advocates of the bill will host a press conference. The events provide opportunities to educate legislators and the public about the many reasons to end the death penalty, and to continue building momentum for change."

Sunday, March 17    roughly 4 pm (J Street Seattle will let you know the exact time when the theater notifies them)

Film - Harvard Exit Theater (807 E. Roy St.); Discussion - Roy Street Coffee House ( 700 Broadway E)

Screening and Discussion of the Oscar-nominated film The Gatekeepers

Join J Street Seattle for a special group screening and discussion of the Oscar-nominated film The Gatekeepers. Following the film, Israeli PhD candidate Yoav Duman, Palestinian arts educator and community activist Zaki Abdelhamid, and Seattle Film Festival Director Pamela Lavitt will host a discussion at a coffee shop around the corner. J Street Seattle has sold out of advance discount tickets. More tickets will become available on March 12 at the regular price. Sign up for the waitlist and J Street will email you with instructions for how to purchase tickets as soon as they are released. About The Gatekeepers: Charged with overseeing Israel's war on terror--both Palestinian and Jewish--the head of the Shin Bet, Israel's secret service, is present at the crossroad of every decision made. For the first time ever, six former heads of the agency agree to share their insights and reflect publicly on their actions and decisions. Directed by Dror Moreh, the documentary The Gatekeepers offers an exclusive account of the sum of their successes and failures. It validates the reasons that each man individually and the six as a group came to reconsider their hard-line positions and advocate a conciliatory approach toward their enemies based on a two-state solution.
