The Good Shepherd Catholic Montessori is dedicated to providing an outstanding education to children ages three to fourteen in a Catholic atmosphere faithful to the Magesterium of the Church. Using the philosophy and techniques of the Montessori approach, including religious education through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, our goal is to enable each child to develop as a well-integrated human being:  spiritually, intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally

"By the practice of your religion you are called to give witness to your faith.  And because actions speak louder than words, you are called to proclaim, by the conduct of your daily lives, that you really do believe that Jesus Christ is Lord!"

Pope John Paul II

Message to High School Students, 1979

Virtues Education Update

Part of our school's continuous improvement plan is the development and implementation of a virtues education program.  Our goal is:  Students will understand the theological and cardinal virtues and will implement them in their own lives.

Touchstone Statement

Part of our work in Virtues Education is the creation of a school-wide "touchstone" statement and a school motto.  Recently, all of our students and teachers generated ideas for our touchstone, and many parents participated with their children as well.  We generated well over 100 "we statements", which we grouped under the categories of "Faith," "Community", "Respect and Diversity,", "Education," and "Character."  A few sample 'we statements' from our students are below:

·         We act like Jesus and treat others like Jesus.

·         We walk in the footsteps of the Good Shepherd and live as a child of the Light.

·         We comfort and lift each other up.

·         We strive to be examples kindness and maturity.

·         We respect ourselves and others and encourage ideas even when we disagree.

·         We respect God's image in everyone.

·         We learn for life.

·         We foster creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

·         We are responsible for our actions.

·         We give our best effort.

Our staff and students will continue to work with all of the 'we statements' we have collected and to winnow them down into an effective touchstone statement and school motto that can help us all continue to "grow in wisdom and stature before God and men."  (Lk 2:52)
