The Good Shepherd Catholic Montessori is dedicated to providing an outstanding education to children ages three to fourteen in a Catholic atmosphere faithful to the Magesterium of the Church. Using the philosophy and techniques of the Montessori approach, including religious education through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, our goal is to enable each child to develop as a well-integrated human being:  spiritually, intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally

Parents -- How Will You Celebrate Valentines' Day?

Dinner in a crowded restaurant?  Buying a dozen roses?

Why not shake things up this year and spend an evening learning about love?

Would you like to help your love grow?

Join us on Saturday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m. as we celebrate the vocation to love in married life with a presentation by GSCM parent, Dr. Andrew J. Sodergren, M.T.S., Psy. D. of Ruah Woods.  What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day then to spend an evening with your husband or wife learning:

  •        how you can help your love grow
  •       how to overcome common obstacles in marriage
  •       what Pope John Paul II's teachings in Theology of the Body can tell us about married love

We hope you'll join us at The Good Shepherd Catholic Montessori for this joyful celebration of love and good conversation.  Wine, cheese and delicious desserts will be served.  Childcare will be provided.   In order that we may plan for appropriate childcare, please RSVP by Feb. 10th to Nancy Toon at (513) 271-4171 or ntoon@gscmontessori.org.

 Accelerated Learning and Student Leadership

By Joyce, Lewis, gr. 4-8 Spanish Teacher

One of the strengths students gain from a Montessori education is student leadership.  Learning at a faster pace is encouraged.  Julia Lotterer, one of my 8th grade students, provides an excellent example of independent learning and strong leadership.  Julia has been working independently ahead of the class in Spanish for three years.  She has given up her lunchtime once a week to meet with me for Spanish instruction and has worked independently during Spanish class time on material a year ahead of her class.  She even missed the bus to the skating rink because she was so involved planning a lesson to teach the 8th graders the next day!  Julia taught a Spanish lesson to the 8th graders and her peers gave her respect and were excited to learn from a peer.

I am happy to be teaching in an environment where students learn at a young age to help and teach other students in their class.  This skill learned early in life has many practical applications in more advanced education and many fields of the workforce.  If your child wants to work ahead of the class on Spanish please encourage them to speak to me.

[End note:]  Upon previewing this article, Julia's parents noted:  We think it is important to also note Sra. Lewis's efforts to go the extra mile and dedicate her time to helping Julia move ahead independently in this subject.  It has been a very successful partnership.

Re-Registration Reminder

We have completed our Priority Registration period for current students and siblings to re-enroll for the 2014-15 school year.  At this time, we are proceeding with the admissions process for new applicants.  Please note that as new applicants are accepted and as current students continue to re-enroll, classes may reach their capacity.

If your family has an extenuating circumstance affecting your re-enrollment, please feel free to contact Dan Teller (dteller@gscmontessori.org) to discuss this.  If we do not hear from you, there is a chance that your child's class may be full if you delay your re-registration.

Reminder: IPM Collection Thursday

Please don't forget our collection Thursday for Inter Parish Ministry's food choice pantry.  We're collecting any kind of tomato products. If you happen to forget your donation then, you may bring it in Friday.

Thank you for your generosity and support.
