How can you know when to apply Crabgrass Preventer? If you're not the type to monitor soil temperatures for several weeks, then consider observing the areas of your lawn that are right next to  pavement - a sidewalk or driveway, etc. Since these areas are a little warmer than open lawn areas, when you see TINY sprouts in those areas you know the crabgrass season has begun and you can treat the lawn. This will insure that you get the longest possible coverage from your Crabgrass Preventer, since the crabgrass doesn't germinate all at once and the product becomes less effective as the temperatures rise. Right now and for the next couple of weeks is the opportune time to apply your Crabgrass Preventer.
