I guess you all know its that "Mum Time" of year.  Our mums are really spectacular this year, and we have them with open blooms, in buds with color showing, and still in tight bud.  You can have some blooming from now into late October and even early November.  We also have perennials and ornamental grasses  to compliment them.  It should be a glorious fall!

Bulb Masses
The Dutch bulbs are here.  We have Tulips, Daffodils, Alliums, Double Hyacinths, Muscari, and Crocus.
You have to plant them this fall
if you want to enjoy their blooms in the spring.

What's up with that??

I just noticed a large vertical crack in the trunk of my maple tree - on the southwest side.
This is undoubtedly a frost crack which happened last winter and was probably visible in spring but just wasn't noticed then.  It has become much more obvious recently because the trunk is slowly increasing in diameter - and even more so because of all the recent moisture available. For some ideas on what to do read this: Frost Crack and Sunscald
We carry and recommend paper tree wrap for newly planted and thin-barked trees such as Maple, Honeylocust, Beech, and Cherry. It should be applied  around the time of fall leaf drop and removed the following spring.
  •  Help! My evergreens are suddenly dropping massive numbers of brown  needles. Are they dying?

NO!  This is absolutely normal for this time of year.  Evergreens shed their oldest needles (which are in the inside or center portion of the tree) every year around this time. If the needles on the tips of the branches are still green this is not a problem.  You don't need to do anything other than pick  up the brown needles if you don't like the look.

Worried about another winter like last year's?

Plan ahead and use Wilt Stop to protect evergreens from moisture loss and browning.  Wilt Stop offers winter protection from dessication for broadleaf evergreens such as Rhodos, Boxwoods, and Hollies and also needled evergreens. It should be applied in late fall, but when temperatures are still above 40 degrees. It can also be used to keep Christmas trees, wreaths, and greens fresh for the holidays. We provide a free hand-out that tells you how.  We have sale prices on both the pint and quart concentrates now so you can be ready!    Pint - reg. $12.95 NOW $11.88      Quart - reg. $19.95 NOW $16.88
