Greetings!

Hurricane Sandy has pretty well taken our leaves and piled them up against any buildings or obstacles, so they should be easier to pick up once the wind slows down.  It's  not too late to plant, and in fact we are currently planting street trees in Valparaiso and LaPorte to replace trees that have succumbed to the Emerald Ash Borer.  The Garden Center is open Mon-Sat until November 21, although we will be gradually packing our plants away for Winter as the season draws to a close. We now close at 4:30 instead of 5:30 since the time change.

Fall Color

November To Do List:
  • Plant the last of your bulbs for color next spring.  We still have a nice selection of Daffodils, Tulips, Hyacinths, Alliums, and Leucojum.
  • Wrap the trunks of newly planted or smooth-barked trees. Trees such as Maple, Cherry and Honeylocust will especially benefit from this wrapping to protect from frost crack. See how
  • Apply Wilt Stop to broad-leaved evergreens like Rhodos, Azaleas, Hollies, and Boxwoods to help protect them from drying winds and sunlight in the winter.  Applying WiltStop
  • Use one of the Repellents to minimize critter damage on trees and shrubs from chewing.  We recommend either Liquid Fence or Plantskydd.   Check this out:  Deer
  • Keep watering your woody plants as needed until the hoses have to be put away.  We had an exceptionally hot and dry summer and many plants have been really stressed by the lack of moisture available to them.  Sending them into winter well-watered will really help their survival.
