Transportation Committee
The Transportation Committee has been busy deliberating the on-going controversy over parking in the neighborhood and specifically the City of Portland's "parking minimum" policy with respect to off-street parking. The Committee's work was documented and shared with the NWDA Board at the January meeting. (See the NWDA website for a copy.) This work will be reconciled with the parallel work of the Ad Hoc Parking and Planning Committees and brought back to the Board in February.
In the meantime, the Transportation Committee has asked TriMet to share information on the impact of the significant transit service reductions on ridership in our neighborhood. That loss of transit service only exacerbates parking and traffic pressures in the community. TriMet will attend the February 6th meeting.
The Committee will also be considering the concerns of neighbors near Chapman School regarding the serious impact of the annual "Swift Watch" event on the quality of life for residents near the school. Those neighbors have crafted parking, traffic and crowd management plans for which they are seeking City and volunteer support. The NWDA Transportation and Safety and Livability Committees will draft a letter of support for City assistance to be considered by the Board at the February meeting.
The NWDA Transportation Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6 pm at Good Samaritan Hospital. The next meetings will be on February 6 and March 6. Air Quality Committee
AQC will meet on February 11th @ 7:00 pm in the Breakfast Room at Silver Cloud Inn on 24th Place & Vaughn. We will be discussing the Con-way Construction clean diesel project and some revisions to the AQC work plan.
