News from the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation
March 2015
Spring!

We have our own brand of March Madness happening this month at the VCTF. We're 50 days away from our 10-year anniversary Cap2Cap celebration, and excitement is in the air.  We just posted the new routes, designed to take advantage of the completed portions of the Virginia Capital Trail.  For the Williamsburg riders, you'll have the option--one we strongly encourage--to use the Trail as you head east back to Chickahominy Park.  For Richmond riders, we'll be in a larger field at Rocketts Landing, which means more room to celebrate your ride and enjoy the party.

Cap2Cap 15-Mile Fun Ride

The incredible pace of pre-registration so far tells us more people than ever are excited to be a part of this.  THANK YOU riders! We have a distance for everyone, from 15-miles to 100- miles, so if, as you read this you're thinking, "Nah, I'm not a cyclist", we say, "So what?".  Even if you haven't been on a bike in thirty years and may still require training wheels, you will fit in at this event.  It's a celebration of the Trail project, which is an amenity for everyone, no matter your age or athletic abilities.  Squirt some lube on your old bike, get some fresh tires and then sign up to celebrate in a really really big way on Saturday, May 9.

See you at the party!

Did You Know?
  • In 2014, Durham, North Carolina completed a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over I-40 linking two segments of the 22-mile American Tobacco Trail. Direct annual expenditures on groceries, retail, and restaurants related to trips on the trail rose from approximately $2.4 million pre-bridge to $6.1 million post-bridge - an increase of $3.7 million.

  • About a bazillion people rode their bikes to Portland's Moda Center for yesterday's VCU - Ohio State NCAA Tournament basketball game.

Volunteers Needed!

It's Monument Avenue 10K time again, which means we'll be staffing a booth at the expo. If you're interested in: 1) talking to a lot of physically fit people who love the Trail project, 2) supporting the VCTF in a fun way, and 3) free food and beverages, then please click here to choose a time slot that works for you. You'll receive our undying gratitude, and maybe some new VCTF swag for your efforts.

Cap2Cap 2015!

Exciting plans are afoot for the 10th Annual Cap2Cap, coming your way Saturday, May 9, 2015. Sign up by April 1 and save on registration fees!

The post-ride party will be one for the ages, with local bands The Red Hot Lava Men and Barrelhouse booked for the Rocketts Landing venue and Phun Doctors on tap for Williamsburg. Speaking of items on tap, we'll have a variety of beer from our generous sponsors, Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, including a fresh new batch of Capital Trail Pale Ale. To claim your free post-ride brew, don't forget this year's password, delivered in your best Cosmo Kramer voice: "These pretzels are making me thirsty."  (We could give you a ticket for your free beer, but that's boring.)
As always, we appreciate support in all its forms!
