News from the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation
February 2015
A Moment to Bask

Reading the mail these last couple weeks has been a thrilling exercise -- I'd like to share a bit of that thrill with all of you. A couple weeks ago, we got a letter from Henrico County informing me that we're receiving an Award of Merit from their Historic Preservation Advisory Committee for "demonstrating a special commitment to historic preservation in Henrico County." Wow, thank you!

We're also receiving the Infrastructure Award from Active RVA because the Virginia Capital Trail will have such a big impact on the region's activity level by offering a safe place for all kinds of physical activity. Again, thank you!

While I have the huge honor of being the person accepting the awards, I do so on behalf of all of you. As everyone out there knows, a project like this is the work of a TON of people, most of whom never get recognized. V-DOT has worked and continues to work very hard on the Trail's completion, and the localities continue to work closely with us on enhancing and promoting this gem so it's as good as it can be. And, as I've said before, all of the volunteers supporting the trail and our work are a part of these awards as well.

So, congratulations, everyone!  Woohoo!

More Good News

The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation is thrilled to announce the kickoff of its mobile marketing campaign project, with the help of a $5,000 grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation. With this grant, we're able to leverage generous donations from The Dominion Foundation and Harris, Hardy & Johnstone. P.C to help us design and implement the next phase of the Trail's web and mobile presence. This is how we will bring people from near and far to the Trail, and to make sure they know everything there is to see and do while they're here. We're hoping to have it ready by the ribbon cutting sometime in September! Thank you, VTC, for your trust and support!
