Let's Celebrate Progress -- IN A BIG WAY
On October 15, we'll be gathering at the Charles City Courthouse complex to officially cut the ribbon on the 13-mile Sherwood Forest section of the Virginia Capital Trail.
Charles City County officials are planning to show off what makes their locality a great destination. Come see what it's all about, and celebrate 13 more miles (and 29 contiguous miles!) of the beautiful Virginia Capital Trail.
This is another opportunity to gather in huge numbers, sending a message to First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe, our keynote speaker, and officials from Richmond to Williamsburg that this trail is important to a lot of people throughout the whole region.
Hope to see you there!

Milestones for the Trail Patrol Program
With the latest group of graduates, there are now 15 male and 5 female Trail Patrol volunteers. (So far, all are bicycle patrollers, so we are seeking walkers or runners who would like to participate as well.)
In the first six months of 2014, patrollers logged 1,000 miles over 120 hours of patrols. Patrollers do everything from clearing debris off the trail and giving directions to out-of-towners to offering assistance to anyone needing it and just being great ambassadors of the trail community. Thank you to all of our Trail Patrol volunteers, but especially these two guys, Ted Hanson and Chan Mohny, for being such an integral part of the group's success.

Helmet Fitting
Thank you to the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists for making trail use safer! In an August helmet giveaway, they handed out 23 new helmets and fitted countless others. What a great service to the community!

Did You Know?
Bicycle Commuting rates across the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia rose 260% between 2005 and 2013? Why? Because of the Schuykill River Trail, a separate multi-use trail just like ours.
We met the owners of the Carolina Tailwinds bike touring company while they were bringing a tour through Charles City County. Based on what they've seen of the Virginia Capital Trail and all the others they take paying customers to visit, here is what they had to say: "This could be one of the most visited trails in the country. It's long and it goes places." Who are we to argue with the experts?
