Find the Password for a Free Beer

Now that I have your attention, welcome to the time of year when we're heavily into planning and promoting the Cap2Cap bike event, our largest fundraiser. For those who haven't had the pleasure of experiencing ride day, this event draws over 2,500 participants of all ages and abilities, many generous sponsors, and hundreds of volunteers. Over the last nine years, it's grown into one of the largest rides in the region. How did this happen? Clearly, the business community embraces it. Check out our sponsor list and notice we have large corporations, regional firms, and many small businesses who donate generous sums of money and in-kind help so we can put on a first-class event. Some believe our ride is popular because of the beautiful routes. Eastern Henrico, Charles City, New Kent, and James City counties are exquisite places to pedal a bike. Between the moderate terrain through beautiful farmland,  feed zones in historic battlefields, and the James River taking center stage at both starting venues, the Cap2Cap is a unique and breathtaking day. Our part of Virginia becomes a stunning spectacle in the spring, and our riders are lucky enough to get a huge dose of it.

But I think the #1 reason this ride has become so successful is that it's just plain fun.Trail supporters are a joyous group, and on Cap2Cap day, they're all very excited to be together. Plus, our post-ride festival features great entertainment, delicious food, and now, our very own beer, Hardywood's Capital Trail Pale Ale. (YES, Williamsburg riders, it will be available at Chickahominy Park!) How many recreational rides have their own beer? Which brings me to the most important detail, the password for a free one. On ride day, come to the beer table and say (or sing): I feel pretty, oh so pretty, and you will get a cold one on us. We could just give you the free ticket with your registration, but where's the fun in thaWilliamsburg Volst? Last year, we discovered true talent among the participants as we witnessed them singing We need more cowbell! for a can of Pale Ale.

So thank you, everyone: sponsors, riders, volunteers, and partners.  We appreciate all of you and hope you all have a great day with us on May 10.

See you there!

What riders had to say about Cap2Cap 2013:

This was my third Cap2Cap, and it is getting better every year!

The ride was great. We drive down from New Hampshire to participate with family and are planning on returning next year. It was easily worth the drive.

We loved this ride SO much that, at the end, we were already talking about coming back next year with more friends!

One of the best experiences I ever had for an organized event. You guys and gals rock. I will be back ... with friends next year!

Join Us on March 27 & 28!

We need volunteers to work the booth with us at the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K Expo. It's crazy fun, you'll see and meet people with great legs, and you'll get to eat lots of free food. And, if you're good at dickering, you could walk out with all kinds of awesome SWAG!
